Back in November 2017 Zwift announced a price increase of $5/month. The Zwiftiverse went abuzz with the news, even though Zwifters were grandfathered into the old price for a year. I was curious whether Zwift would be worth the increased price, so I listed out some of the major things Zwift brought us during the previous year, concluding, “If they’ve done all that with our $10/month, ‘$15 Zwift’ is only going to be better.”
It’s been a year since that announcement, so let’s see what happened in the world of Zwift during the year of “grandfathered pricing.” Please note this list highlights the big stuff. Many smaller features and bug fixes happened as well!
Here’s what our courses looked like in December 2017:
- November 23, 2017: First official group run event
- December 10, 2017: Drone camera feature added
- December 13, 2017: Update to the Mobile Link App that included much-needed event filtering
- January 8, 2018: Added rural routes in the London Box Hill area, relocated some starting areas (ie. “Jungle Circuit” now starts near the Jungle), added a more visually obvious starting line to timed segments, hologram treadmills added under runners warming up for events
- January 31, 2018: Watopia “Mega Pretzel” and “Greatest London Flat” routes added
- March 14, 2018: New and improved “Zwift Companion” app
- March 29, 2018: Alpe du Zwift arrives
- April 26, 2018: Timing panel and timers for power-ups added to Alpe du Zwift
- May 30, 2018: Released version 1.0 of Training Plans feature, previous efforts are now graphed on Alpe du Zwift segments, events can be on “off calendar” worlds
- June 22, 2018: Zwift acquires team and assets of Milestone Sports
- June 25, 2018: Zwift becomes GDPR compliant
- August 2018: Double draft mode debuts in some races and group rides
- August 1, 2018: Innsbruck world arrives
- August 27, 2018: Weight of riders being sent to ANT+ FE-C trainers
- October 1, 2018: Dedicated run-only routes added to Watopia, custom ride routes now available for events
- October 18, 2018: Futuristic New York City world arrives
- October 31, 2018: Option added to mute title music
Getting rid of the title music alone is worth $5 more per month to me! Besides that, we got two new worlds, several new routes and some really great features. What do you think?
