This route covers Zwift’s experimental “all dirt” world in a counterclockwise direction. It uses some Zwift trickery to make the gravel feel extra-fast, while keeping actual speeds realistic and .fit files accurate.

Gravel Mountain was built as a test to see whether compelling worlds/maps/routes could be created using a more streamlined workflow, but it appeared that the project was abandoned soon after the world’s assets showed up in the game files in April 2022. Here’s what Zwift had to say about it back then:
Gravel Mountain is the code name for a new experiential event-only map developed by our game team as they explore new ways to build maps and worlds with greater efficiency. As an experiential map, Zwift will be hosting invite-only events to test this map for stability and eventually, new features. While we are unable to confirm when this map will be broadly available, we’re excited about what this new, faster, iterative approach means for Zwift and for map innovation in the future.
When we thought Gravel Mountain would never see the light of day, in April 2026 Zwift launched a race series featuring revamped routes on this map.

I’m guessing that people is too busy with the ERG problems of the last update, tc. But it feel weird to me that only 4 comments on this new map. So, my question is: Is it real?
I’m no fan of gravel, but I would like the idea of a solo gravel world. I’d love to give it a try to these routes, but my question is if it is posible? Maybe a tiny race there?
I was thinking this hasn’t had as much attention as I was expecting myself. From what I have read/heard about this previously it does seem to be real and I’ve seen the video posted above in a couple of places.
Maybe it’s my lack of technical know-how showing but it seems like a lot of the work to make it happen has already been done so hopefully it will appear or be used as the basis for something else in future.
I’m not fanatically interested in gravel either but any new roads/worlds will always be really exciting to have. Fingers crossed it sees the light of day to all users eventually.
I appreciate completely that designing new multi-route worlds that can be expanded in future, like Makuri, is a huge undertaking so if the compromise is more standalone short courses like this I think most users would take it. I also think most users won’t care if the surface is/ seems slower – new roads take precedence over any other consideration in my humble opinion.
Also does anyone know why Innsbruck was left out of TdZ?
About Insbruck left out of TdZ, one world was going to be out. I thing that as in the longer A routes we have Surrey Hills, La Reine and the Epic KOM, plus Everything bagel as well over 500 m of climbing, they decided to leave out Insbruck. In Insbruck you have the Insbruckring routetaht cpuld be used for the shorter (or even the medium distance), but the rest of the routes involved climbing the KOM, and probably they considered that it would be too hard. I just joined a year ago, and do not remeber much about TdZ 2022, but compared with Tour of Watopia and Tour of Makuri, the longer distance of TdZ2023 is much harder.
And my comemnt about this gravel world, is the fact that very few attention was paid to it.

so, this project was frozen like the downhill project with auto-braking … or is there any news about this ?
I’ve been anxiously awaiting news of the downhill project as well. As a 100+kg low B, I was really hoping for a downhill race as my chance to shine (and talking with friends about whether at those speeds, it’s better to be able to draft or if a TT bike might be the best).

I was just wondering about what happened to these courses the other day. Sad to see that the idea appears to have gotten abandoned (though with no pen), an event only route seems a bit odd. I’m weird but I used to love warming up on Repack Ridge (until a couple of weeks ago when I did that before the ZRL TTT and ended up stuck on an mtb through the whole TTT and hurt my team as a result because they had to ride with one less rider). I was really hoping to try some exclusively gravel races (so no mixed surfaces to force choosing or changing bikes) on this new course.

Having watched the video by Zee in this comment chain, the course looks absolutely amazing! I can’t see why Zwift wouldn’t be promoting events out on this route to get people riding it.
Obviously, those people wanting to smash out kms and level up wouldn’t appreciate this route, but it looks fun, and as long as gravel bikes are part of Zwift, there needs to be a purpose for them. Otherwise, get rid of terrains all together and make gravel bikes as fast on tarmac.

Having watched the video, I am in love with that course, and wish that Zwift would release it. If they are worried about stability, make it a run-only world and let those of us with dreadmills out to play
So zwift is testing a map editor feature?
More likely AI map generation. Likely a first draft that requires some editing, possibly more than they hoped for.
I don’t think we should be riding on routes before they are safety inspected and certified as safe .
I agree, we coluld have an accident an get hurt. Seriously, is a virtual world, the worst that can happen is taht the computer freezes.
Yeah, but a computer freezing would be considered worse than the end of the world by many…
