“Petit Boucle” Route Details (France)

Animated Route Map
Animated map provided by ZwiftHacks

Looking for a tour of France? Released with Zwift’s France map for the first-ever Virtual Tour de France, the Petit Boucle route is the longest on the map (along with Tire-Bouchon). Its name references Le Tour’s “Grand Boucle” nickname, which means “big loop.”

It covers all roads in both directions, except for the road up Mont Ventoux.

Route Description

Route profile by ZwiftHub – the place to plan and track your route achievements!

This route begins with almost an entire loop of the R.G.V. route, but it turns left near the end, heading toward the start pens instead of the finish line. This takes you uphill to climb the backside of the Petit KOM (a key climb in a race) before a left-hand turn onto the Petit KOM’s descent.

After a right at the next fork, we’re back on the road we started with, in the opposite direction. That means we’ll hit the Aqueduc KOM and Pavé Sprint before passing Mont Saint-Michel and the lighthouse and heading into the marina for a Marina Sprint.

Then it’s along the twisty river road with hot air balloons floating in the sky, where we’ll hit the Ballon sprint.

Next we turn right onto the Petit KOM – the longest climb of this route. Finish the climb, descend past the starting pens, and finish with one more Marina Reverse Sprint.

Apart from the fact Americans can’t speak or spell French, is there any reason why this is called Petit Boucle and not Petite Boucle? Same goes for “la grand boucle”, should be “la grande boucle”.

Not your fault Eric, as Zwift got it wrong, but the t and d aren’t silent if followed by an e.🤓

Hi Eric. Rode the « petite boucle » this morning (A ride). After 50 km, we are a nice groupetto (15 riders). The last hill was coming and 5 riders used the coffee cup in the hill. Cheating is always a goal for some riders. They think, we are so smart. Not for me, they are cheaters. Period !

Hi
‘Petit’ is the masculine form of the word and ‘Petite’ is the feminine, as ‘Boucle’ is masculine it is assigned ‘Petit’ and not the feminine version of ‘Petite’. I hope this helps?

Thank you Jon. However Boucle is feminine! The Tour de France is often referred as LA grande boucle. So, it should be PetitE Boucle.

It should be La Petite Boucle. I think the Zwift owners simply got it wrong.

Not true. Boucle is femine (French is my primary language, and I double-checked in a French dictionary just to be sure). For some reason Zwift uses the wrong form of adjectives for several of the French routes.

BUT is this is an English write up. So “English versions” of the French terms should be acceptable…almost like a translation…example the proper noun (name of a person!) “Juan” in Spanish is “John” in English not the same “Juan.”

Sorry, but « Boucle » is feminine so it should indeed be « Petite ».

Only French people think speaking/reading proper French is important… above all, when it comes to sport performance! Have you ever heard Peter Sagan speaking? I’ll take have his legs …lol…

Maybe just call him Pete Sagan if spelling doesn’t matter that much. Isn’t it Xavié? 😂

Petit Sagan is Petit Sagan, but in France it’s Le Petit Sagan.

Is the petite Kom in reverse midway through the route not worth a mention on the map. Big enough to break up any competitive race for sure and doesn’t even get a mention. Is it a mistake?

It’s not mentioned since there is no ingame segment there.

I completed this route today, however I had to do 482 m elevation gain. Since the lead-in is relatively short and doesn’t have significant climbs, I was surprised to see that the difference was so big compared to the elevation mentioned here (430 m), especially since the length was spot-on (my ride was 62.3 km). I stopped the ride immediately after the finish banner and the route achievement popped up. Any idea where I collected those 50 additional elevation meters? It wasn’t a big deal, I am just curious. I really love this website and reading about the routes before riding them, thanks Eric!

On ZwiftHub.com it’s listed as 483m.

50 metres is relatively accurate, many other routes show much greater discrepancies eg Route Ma Poule has a stated 145m of climbing which will actually be around 260m by the time you’ve completed the route.

Hi @Rob, the difference in Roule ma Poule can be explained due to the lead-in, which includes an additional climb in the lead-in. And thanks @thewannabeironman, then it is probably just a typo here.

Team,

I already registered to participate these events. I am new to Zwift Racing and would like to know how I finds the races to ride in Zwift app

The best way to find races is using the ZwiftHacks events page. Second best way is in the Companion app (use filters to show only races). The worst way to find races is in the Zwift app.

I forgot a couple other good sites for finding races, which also let you analyze the signed up competition: zwiftracing.app and zrace.bike
