Updated: Veloviewer Route Hunter Leaderboards and Printable Route List

Zwift has been busy adding new routes and climb portals to the game, with ~20 new routes added since January and several climb portals as well.

As of today, our lists are all caught up to what’s in game. This includes:

Strava Segment Matching Bug

On a related note: many Zwifters have noticed that, for the past year or so, Strava hasn’t been matching certain activities to certain segments. It’s an odd bug, because it doesn’t seem to apply to older segments. But newer ones – at least those created after April 2024, although we don’t have a precise date – are affected. It seems to apply to segments that include multiple loops of a circuit, or repeated sections of road.

The following segments/routes are affected by this bug, and have thus been removed from the Veloviewer leaderboards until Strava fixes the issue:

If you want to bend Strava’s ear about this, please reply to the topic I just created on Strava’s Community Hub.

Thanks for putting this information together, Eric!

As an experiment, what happens if you create a new duplicate test-only segment for one of the old looping segments that still works? Either it’ll work well or it won’t work, and either way the result will be very interesting.

Thanks @Eric Schlange ! Great to see these all updated. One note: in the Watopia (Medium) leaderboard, the Big Flat 8 segment starts inside the pens instead of from a free-rideable starting point. I believe every other route in the leaderboard is free-rideable, and that’s actually one of the criteria for including it in the leaderboards or not. Any chance you can switch that one back to the standard Big Flat 8 (Banner to Banner) segment? Or maybe alter the current segment so that it starts just after the free-ride spawn point?

Don’t alter the segment then everyone has to redo the segment and loses any history.

Good point. Switching back to the “Banner to Banner” segment probably makes the most sense.

Really good update Eric but I have ridden the Cauberg and Veloviewer hasn’t updated this. Any reason?

I would add I have this issue on a couple of other routs too, Downtown Titans, Richmond around loop, Spiral to the Volcano and a few more that were completed as part of events but don’t register into Veloviewer

Just seen it’s an excluded effort heaven knows how or why

Maybe you did something else than the 100% version? Even if you climb it 20 times at 100% and once at 50%, the whole ride will be excluded from segment matching.

Thanks for the note about the dodgy Strava segments @Eric Schlange – I did NYC KOM after party in January, but Strava doesn’t recognise that one. I tried deleting/restoring and that didn’t work, so will pop over to the hub to comment.

I see that several of the affected strava segments have been added to veloviewer leaderboard again and they seem to have a decent number of people on them now. Does this mean there has been movement on this issue? Do you know what happened? Some segments fixed but not all?

Thanks.

Is the fix something strava did per-segment? I asked because Deca Dash has plenty of people on it but Deca Dash with lead in still has no one on it despite several very recent rides looking like they should match it.

And what about LaGuardia After Party? It’s not in the veloviewer leaderboard and the link to it’s segment on it’s page here is “not found”.

Is there a timeline for an updated printable list? Or is there a way to print just a list of the new routes that have been added since April?

This list was the perfect motivational tool to help me start to figure out HOW to Zwift! When we first started, all-things-zwift kept me confused & exasperated (full disclosure – ADD brain here!) When my partner found & printed the list, it gave me FOCUS and helped me understand worlds, routes & levels. And I could set goals & see progress by checking off my routes! I’ve gradually explored other aspects like challenges, climb portal, group rides, unlocks, drops, etc. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
