“Deca Dash” Route Details (Watopia)

Animated Route Map
Animated map provided by ZwiftHacks

By far the longest route released in Zwift’s November 2024 Jarvis expansion, Deca Dash is sort of a mini PRL Full. It derives its name from the 10 laps of Jarvis Island you must complete before earning the achievement badge.

Route Description

Route profile by ZwiftHub – the place to plan and track your route achievements!

You’ll begin with a lead-in from downtown Watopia and around the northern section of the Volcano Circuit before turning right into Jarvis Island beginning the loop in a clockwise direction.

The Jarvis Island sprint banner marks the start of your first loop. You’ll travel up the Jarvis KOM Reverse, down past the Banjo Cafe and Queen Mary, through the lap arch, past the Italian Villas, then hit the Jarvis Sprint Reverse whose banner marks the end of your lap.

That’s one down. Nine to go. You got this!

Note: the Strava segment we’ve created for this route isn’t matching up to Zwift activities at this time. We’ve reported this to Strava, and they admit that sometimes their system has problem matching activities with lots of loops. Until then, the individual lap is a separate Strava segment so your lap times will be tracked accurately.

This should be fun on ToW Stage 5, as all the firebreathers attack off the front to see how many times they can lap the rest of the riders

This is so confusing. Zwift Companion says it’s 1 lap for the Tour of Watopia stage 5 Long (A).

Which is correct. (Deca itself is just 10L).

But Zwift never counts lead in when you switch to lap view. It specifically says 48.3km/lap (52.6km with lead in) even though it’s just multiple loops of the same “track”. How is that one lap? It may be correct but I still find it confusing.

The route is 10 laps of the island. If you do a 2 lap event it would be the lead in then 2×10 laps of the island.

It’s one lap of the course, but the course is 10 laps of the road.
Two laps would be 20 times around Jarvis.

rode this last night and not showing, checked the segment and shows 0 people have comleted it, presume this is something that will get fixed to capture the correct data and to match the TOW event course all have been doing?

Did this on TOW – its a nice little expansion I will use but never again will i do this route

FYI lap 1 is not a full lap and does not register as a lap effort

The other routes around Jarvis will lead niceley to other Rebel Type Routes

the TOW lap counter says its only 9 laps because the strava segment for jarvis island clockwise starts and ends at first sprint banner rather than the lap banner – strava needs updating

Nobody has completed the Deca Dash segment yet.
I think you need to make “Deca Dash from the Start Pen” and “Deca Dash from the Spawning Area” versions, since that’s what people tend to ride. Since they don’t go through the lap banner on the first lap (so Deca Dash is more like 9.9 laps than 10 laps).

Surely it makes sense to start at the downtown banner?

Strava sometimes struggles with multi-lap segments, but anyway I think the issue this time is that start of the 10-lap segment is at a location you don’t pass until you do the second lap. Maybe nobody did the 11th lap yet. I might try that tomorrow and see if I get a match…

PS. Did a Neokyo Crit race yesterday and the only match was a segment called “Neokyo Crit Course (old)”. Is there a newer one that doesn’t fit?

Ugh, I thought Strava was done with their zwift strava segment cleanup, now they are meddling even with you??

It sounds like it is a problem with strava’s segment matching algorithm. There are existing problems with it on multiple loop segments like 10 x loops in crit city (you can match the segment with less than the listed number of loops).

This is all speculation, but I think it’s relatively informed speculation, but unless Strava has the ability to make some kind of small tweak and/or make it specific to that segment, then fixing that would require them to change their segment matching algorithm. Which I think would require a significant amount of time for them to do because it would need to be done carefully (does anyone who currently works at strava understand that code?).

I did 12 laps yesterday just to check, but I had no segment match then either. one way to debug it is to create e.g. 2-lap, 4-lap, 6-lap and 8-lap segments, and see which ones get a match on a 10 or 12-lap ride. When I made them as private segments, all of them match with my own rides, but I can’t check how the public segments behave.

I agree. Lots of the new routes on Zwift recently have been a bit pointless.

I liked this as a 10x 2’30” interval training. Since I need the right group to push me, Deca Dash will probably lose its appeal for me after the Tour of Watopia.

They’re running out of “real” new terrain and they know many long term subscribers are hitting a wall with new badges.

Is the badge a possibility in 2025?
Just the normal freeride pick or create an event?
I’m thinking of doing this for the badge this weekend. Some good music and snacks and just keep rollin down the track.

It went very well, stopped twice to change bikes for PR’s. I think this was definitely way more fun than the 25 laps in the volcano even if it’s just half the laps.
