Watopia’s “Figure 8” route covers the entire hilly and flat routes in both directions. If you’re looking for a ride around an hour long that includes some short climbs and a nice mix of flats and rollers, this is a solid choice.

The reverse Figure 8 route is popular with racers since it doesn’t start with a tough climb out of the box, and has a nice mix of punchy climbs, flats, and rollers to keep the race interesting by allowing for strategic attacks from a variety of riders.

Bike Selection

Your most aero setup will give you the fastest overall time on this route, since the climbs are short and punchy. That said, if your race has drafting enabled and you struggle on short, punchy climbs, you might consider a lighter (but still aero) wheelset and/or frame. You’ll have to work a bit harder on the flats and descents to stay with the pack, but will gain some advantage on the climbs.

Route Description

Begin in downtown Watopia and head to The Esses for a go at the reverse sprint before hitting the cobbles of the Italian Villas and taking on our longest climb of the day – the Hilly KOM Reverse.

Then it’s a quick descent and a fast ride in the Ocean Boulevard underwater tunnel, bringing us back up to the Italian Villas and the forward sprint. Climb up to The Esses, descend to downtown Watopia, and it’s time to take on our second climb – the Hilly KOM. This one is short, and it’s gonna hurt in a race!

Enjoy the long descent down to the statues, then take Ocean Boulevard back for a finish in downtown Watopia.

  • Oct 31, 2018: Zwift’s 1.0.31423 update included a “Figure 8 Reverse” route which varied from the original reverse route which could be reached by a u-turn on the forward route. (This routing was corrected sometime in the summer of 2019.)

I am at 36.7km and not complete. Is the distancia wrong?

29.7km + 0,3km = 30 km, so certainly not if he was at 36.7.

But its a half year ago 😀 Certainly he’s done it now.

The Veloviewer 2D image doesen’t match the images on top of page. Different lead-in, lead-out and order of climbs?

Yes, the new Strava segment is incorrect, and the old one has been removed.

I just rode this – but I did 2 u-turns to get a longer warm up before going through the start banner and was unknowingly guided round an alternate route.
Was puzzled I didn’t get a badge – uploaded it to Strava and the segment is listed as Figure 8 Reverse V.2.

I’m confused. If I select this route from within Zwift, do I ride the new segment? The Veloviewer Route Hunter timings have all been reset so something has definitely changed.
