Zwift has just announced that El Giro de Rigo is returning to the platform, and happening this weekend! Normally a massive outdoor event, this year’s El Giro de Rigo in Colombia has unfortunately been canceled due to COVID-19, so Zwift has become the sole destination for 2020 El Giro de Rigo fun.
Last year’s event was very popular with its prizes and a chance to ride with the great Colombian pro cyclist Rigoberto Urán. Here are the details of this year’s events…
Routes
This year’s event includes two route options. The “official” route is a 70km ride on Watopia’s Big Foot Hills, or Zwifters can choose a shorter 42.3km effort on Watopia’s Out and Back Again.
- Big Foot Hills
- Length: 67.5 km (41.9 miles)
- Elevation: 707 m (2,320’)
- Lead-In: 2.4 km (1.5 miles)
- Out and Back Again
- Length: 39.8 km (24.7 miles)
- Elevation: 303 m (994‘)
- Lead-In: 2.4 km (1.5 miles)

Categories
The category you select will determine the gender(s) you compete against as well as your route length. Categories for these events are not based on power numbers.
- A: open category (men + women), 70km Big Foot Hills route
- B: women only, 70km Big Foot Hills route
- C: open category (men + women), 42.3km Out and Back Again route
- D: women only, 42.3km Out and Back Again route

Any XP bonus for this?
Nothing mentioned by Zwift.
Thanks for the article. I’ve registered to ride “with” Rigo on Monday morning!
Have you any news for us about the IRACELIKEAGIRL events coming up next week?
Working on a post about it!
Will I get the Big Foot Hills route achievement badge if I complete the ride?
Yup.
Do we know whether Rigo will be doing the long or short route?
I would guess the long one. You can find out by viewing the signup list in Companion, though.
Thanks, he doesn’t seem to be listed yet, will keep an eye out. Seem to remember when he’s done public events before he doesn’t hang around 😃
Any reason why I can’t seem to enter any of these events??
Silence from Uran during this morning’s El Giro de Rigo. No hello, no thank you- not a single message. I don’t think it’s too much to ask for event special guests to message something.
I agree. Very disappointing after getting up at 5 a.m. for the 6 a.m. start. Might has well been riding by myself. During the ride I saw someone mention that he had a live YouTube stream, which I found, but it was all in Spanish and just looked like Uran and a bunch of his friends having fun oblivious to the fact that there were a couple thousand of us on Zwift riding his event.
Yes, I thought the same. I was on the Sunday 1305 (GMT) event, and rode the long route. Rigo was there but said nothing. Not once. Not even a “thanks for joining” in the start pen. It’s not like he was a special invited guest. This was an event he created and had his name, literaly, written all over it. Surely it’s just basic manners to say hi to the 3000 people who turned up. It’s not like he has to walk around and greet us all in the start pens. 10 seonds on the keyboard; everyone is happy. Really disappointed… don’t think I’ll bother next time.
Why did this event get added to my zwift power? It doesn’t state that in the event description
Didn’t get added to mine …
The other way around: do I get the giro kit if I ride the full big foot hills ? (I did that yesterday individually)
Is there a classification anywhere, one classification after all starts? If so, where can you find it? In the hour I started I was 30 but then the classification appeared for a moment, that 256- is this classification available anywhere?
Sure, on ZwiftPower. Here’s one event: https://zwiftpower.com/events.php?zid=1167428
