Zwift World Series Race 2 Details: Peak Performance

The next community races of Zwift’s inaugural World Series happen this week/weekend, and riders will tackle Watopia’s tough Peak Performance route. All are welcome, from beginners to the elite racers who will be joining in to recon the course for the elite events happening in October!

Here are the big reasons why the Zwift World Series community races are interesting:

  • They function as a monument race one weekend per month from September to January, offering a chance to challenge and test yourself against the Zwift racing community
  • Plenty of opportunities to participate, with races scheduled from Thursday to Sunday across multiple time slots
  • Global Leaderboards for each month’s races (here is the leaderboard for race #2), plus a General Classification that combines all the monthly races to see how you rank against your peers throughout the series
  • Zwift World Series Community kit unlock when you complete any of the five races
  • Elite riders can use these races as recon events prior to the big elite races, and community riders get to race the same course as the elites to see how they compare
  • Three brand-new courses and two never before featured in Zwift racing (see all routes here)

Race #2 Route Details: Peak Performance

Released with Watopia’s “The Grade” expansion, this route is a loop that begins and ends in downtown Watopia. You’ll first ride through Titans Grove, but that KOM is just a quick taste of the big climb that lies ahead. After some flat miles, riders will climb The Grade, then continue ascending the Epic KOM before descending back to Watopia proper for the finish. See more route details >

  • Powerups: Draft awarded at the Titans Grove KOM Reverse (1x)
  • Primes (elite races only):
    • Woodland Sprint
    • The Grade

In the companion app I have noticed that the ZWS is no longer based on old categorization but the new racing score!

Hey Adam – I’ve just posted on facebook about this here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/zwiftriders/posts/2594768410729448/

To copy from my post:

“The eagle eyed of you may notice that Zwift World Series is due to use ZRS from September 26th. This is down to two reasons. Firstly, we believe that ZRS offers a more fun, fairer and more competitive option for all racers. Secondly, we have had limited exposure to ZRS on longer routes and want to see how these events perform prior to our full launch in case any last minute tweaks are needed.”

Awesome James!

I fully agree! One question though. Since the GC started with an original classification, how is that going to transfer to ZRS bands (especially since there were four groups and now there are five).

Hi Adam,

I will have the GC leagues set to convert all times to a single category (E). There will then be additional filters to allow you to filter your result to your score band.

You basically just keep pushing a half-baked technology that a lot of critics say is based on some shaky foundations. We can all see it does not perform well in short, dynamic races, and the endurance gaps in the pens are so extreme that they let a handful of racers break the competition apart. The complaints keep rolling in every week here or on the Zwift Forums, but you guys are acting like you cannot see, hear, or say anything about it.

When you kick off the ZRS, expect some fireworks, but it’ll feel more like an ammo depot blowing up than a New Year’s bash. Just my two cents.

Using the new Pinarello bike, what wheelset as I’m assuming the DT Disc will carry major weight penalty on The Climb?
