Why are Zwift races full of white Tarmacs? Because the S-Works SL8 is the top all-around performer in Zwift! Yes, other bikes might edge it out in aero performance, and some might even outclimb it when fully upgraded. But if you want a bike that climbs very well while losing hardly anything to the most aero bikes, look no further.
PERFORMANCE & UPGRADING
Performance At Each Upgrade Stage
This chart shows how many seconds this frame will save across 1 hour of riding compared to our stage 0 baseline frames (Zwift Carbon or TT). This is based on a 75kg rider, 183cm tall, at 300 watts, riding on tarmac.
Upgrade Stages (Distance, High-End)
- 200km: Aero Upgrade for 100k Drops
- 260km: Weight Upgrade for 200k Drops
- 320km: Drivetrain Upgrade for 350k Drops
- 380km: Aero Upgrade for 500k Drops
- 440km: Weight Upgrade for 750k Drops

Nothing is faster than the Specialized Tarmac SL8 thanks to the bike’s synergistic combination of aerodynamics, light weight, and ride quality previously thought impossible. After eight generations and over two decades of development, it’s more than the fastest Tarmac ever – it’s the world’s fastest race bike.
Great idea 🤩🤩
Love it.. great stuff
I reckon put all the bikes in a spreadsheet with the relevant data, that can be custom filtered for easy quick comparison.
That’s already available
Great idea, maybe a have a separate cost/unlock star metric that factors in level unlock and drop cost & somewhere that has the KMs needed to unlock each to save looking it up.
Looks great!
The only think I would add is the position in the ranking, both flat and climbing. Or something that show how far the top it is.
It might be a lot of work to keep it up to date when new faster bikes come around
I’m hoping the ZIMetrics ratings out of 100 will accomplish this. I think in some ways it’s actually better to present it this way, vs a positional ranking, since (for example) there are basically 4 top all-arounder road bikes that are very close to each other. Saying one is in 1st while another is in 4th, IMO, makes it feel like there’s more of a performance gap between them than there actually is.
Stupid question: Where did you find this article?
I just stumbled upon it through the “Newest Comments” section on the page.
But I can’t find it anywhere else.
I shared a post on ZI’s Facebook page talking about project we’re working on. Linked to this frame specifically (although there are 5-10 other frames currently published).
That’s great !
Just one thing: the ‘Upgrade Steps (distance, high end)’ table is hard to read on a mobile phone because the columns are very narrow.
Fixed!
