UPDATE: Crit City events are happening now. After this post, many more Crit City events were added to the calendar, with the first event happening at 12:30AM Pacific on December 14, 2019.
After a bit of a delay, it looks like we’ll be seeing events on Crit City beginning on Monday (if not sooner).
One event is already posted: the DBR Monday Race at 10:15AM Pacific. 16 laps of the “Downtown Dolphin” route!
Will this be the first event on the new map, or will we see other events dropping into the calendar before Monday? One thing is certain–we’ll have many more chances to ride in Crit City, but only one chance to be part of the first event ever held there.

I’m a little puzzled by these event-only worlds. Seems (to me) that it must be a significant amount of effort to build a whole new course, one that a relatively small fraction of the total user base will ever see. I can kind of see it in the case of Bologna, where they’re replicating a real-life course, but with Crit City, if you’re inventing something new from scratch, why not attach it to Watopia, so that everyone can ride it (like they did with the volcano island)?

Just finished my race around Crit City!
I had a blast riding around, it was the downtown dolphin route. The tiny uphill stretch followed by some up down corners before the finishing stretch makes it a lot of fun!
The distance counters don’t really work right though it was an 8 lap race. The distance counter was on 0 after lap 6, the lap counter in the HUD said 8/8 after lap 7 (which is logical if you look at it one of two ways). There is also a lap counter at the start finish banner which counts down to 0. That’s the one to trust, but I only saw that one after I jumped a lap too early haha.

Also a big ring surrounding most of the roads downtown.
As Ben says, distance to go counter is very broken so watch the lap counter instead. A few sharp little up and down bumps before the final corner make a traditional sprint leadout quite tricky.
After the race I was able to do a u-turn and pick up a couple of jerseys (as no-one else was doing the reverse). So it looks like there is reverse course as well.
