ZRL Round 2 Route Design Competition: Vote Now!

The final race of each round of the 2024/25 Zwift Racing League season will feature a new community-designed route, and it’s time to vote on the route for Round 2!

17 submissions were sent in, and as one of the judges tasked with narrowing the list to three, I can say that nearly every submission was a well-designed route with something compelling in its favor.

After spending way too much time looking at each and every proposed route, a panel of judges (including myself) narrowed the field to just three. And now the Zwift community gets to decide which one we’ll race on December 17!

To vote, visit this page on WTRL’s website. Voting is open now and will close Friday, October 18 at 12pm UTC/5am PDT.

I’m glad to see a route going *down* the itza kom, think that’s a first, but the Three Ring Circus is the winner for me.

F.y.i Champ, Tide and Temples descends the Itza KOM. I rode it today. Good Times, highly recommend it.

2, 1, 3.

I like that the voting is Ranked Choice. Seems like that’s a pretty great way to vote. 😉

None are looping (back to start)? Dislike all three. Say what you will about Braek-fast, at least it can be laps

If you try to design a route on Zwift, you quickly come to realize you’re limited by the position of start pens. What I like about all 3 routes is that they all finish at an arch, where no other Zwift race ends. I presented 4 routes to this competition, they have selected my only Watopia route. I suspect WTRL wanted a Watopia route for this round.

Cheers, RobG. Thanks for the reply and I understand the limitations faced. I appreciate the work and effort that goes into creating a route, so well done and congrats on being a finalist! It’s just my personal preference toward routes that lap/loop. I’m curious if any of the other 14 submissions were looping or not.

Ryan, 4 submissions, not 14 🤣. 1 of them involves more than 1 loop of a circuit, not the others. The requirements for the route design stipulate a maximum elevation gain of 400m and a maximum total distance of 35km. Both of these restrictions are reasonnable but do limit the ability to include looping in worlds other than Watopia and Makuri Islands (and maybe NY).

“Hint: to best understand the proposed routes and their profiles, click to see the ride details for each route above, then scroll along the profile below the animated map to see the direction of travel. WTRL’s voting page includes written descriptions of each route from their creators.”
I think I understand this but might it be possible just to copy and paste the images of the profiles into the article above please?

Many thanks Eric- that’s really helpful, and shows I wasn’t quite looking at the right thing through the Zwift website which had the route designer’s ride stats all over it. Appreciate it!
