No longer Unemployed: We Are “Working From Home”!

Zwift has officially renamed the “Unemployed” badge to “Working from Home”.

We’re not sure when this was updated, but we assume it happened in last week’s release.

This is just a small bit of news, of course. But it’s worth mentioning because it’s something the community first began asking for when the COVID-19 crisis hit, and SiP/WFH became well-known acronyms overnight. (The badge is given after 14 days in a row of riding or running at least 5km – learn more about it here.)

Kudos to Zwift for turning a negative-sounding badge into one that’s both positive and a lovely play on words.

Ride on!

It won’t sound very positive to the many people who’ve lost their jobs as a result of Covid-19, or aren’t working or able to work for whatever reason. To have a badge that celebrates gainful employment, albeit at home, is IMO just as bad as “unemployed”. Better they just remove any association with employment status in the badge’s name.

Have you considered that it might be a bit tongue in cheek and not worth getting even upset by?

I think the ‘Unemployed’ was tongue in cheek, and Zwift should have left it.

Definitely an improvement, but maybe a better balance would be working out from home, or just plain Zwift-addicted.

They should have named it “working” from home, how many Zwifters are choosing to get a ride in during the day now instead of actually doing their job 😄

My boss follows me on strava so that avenue of pleasure is closed to me 😉

How about “Obsessed” since that works along with the other 2.

I noticed this yesterday. I am wagering, too, that with 13.5% US unemployment, maybe they were trying to be broadly sensitive.

I’m just as annoyed that the new name is not in ALL CAPS like all the others….

WORD! But the all-caps version would probably be too wide for the grid.

So is the rule that you have to do 5 km (ride or run) not just any distance? Some days I just don’t feel like doing anything…so I’ve put in a token 0.3 km or something…BTW that has not worked…

This was in the update from a coupla days ago that took us to 1.0.51298. The update was quick so apparently it flew under everybody’s radar. The only other change I could see was (FINALLY) the distance to go in the KOM (QOM) segment banner when they show how fast the faster riders are compared to how slow you are (or will be). A nice little change.

Now if they can fix fouled up horizontal situation display, the fouled up GUI that forces us to exit the app to go to another world and the…

Happy to see it! I had suggested “Quarantined” but “working from home” is better.

seems weird to make it work related at all? what about retired people or children?

I remember a football manager game I used to paly had something similar and after you’d played for ages it changed the status to “Remember to wash”

maybe the zwift equivalent could be “consider rehab” seeing as the one before is addicted

It seems as though some people are searching for things to be offended by. It was probably fine the way it was, it’s now fine the way it is. There’s a lot of bigger problems out there than the name of a digital badge – which, FTR, bravo if you’ve earned it, that’s a long stretch of exercise.

I liked “FUNemployed” as Monica called it.

I guess they don’t have a 21 or 28 day in a row badge because they don’t want anyone to over do it 😃
