The “Mountain 8” route on Watopia similar in distance to “Figure 8“, but with substantially more climbing since it takes you over the reverse Epic KOM and up the radio tower climb. The strongest riders can complete this route in under an hour, but mere mortals will need 75 minutes or more.

Route Description

Route profile by ZwiftHub – the place to plan and track your route achievements!

Beginning at the downtown Watopia start/finish, we head out Ocean Boulevard and hang a left at the windmills toward the docked planes and the start of the route’s big climb: the reverse Epic KOM.

Helpful note: before you destroy yourself chasing a Strava PR on the reverse Epic KOM, be warned: this route turns you onto the radio tower “bonus climb” before the Epic KOM banner, so your ride won’t match up with the Strava segment!

Near the top of the Epic KOM you’ll turn right to hit the bonus climb, which feels nothing like a bonus – more like a punishment! This is the steepest climb in Watopia, and you’ll need all the w/kg you can muster to work your way to the top.

Once you’ve arrived at the radio tower enjoy the view at the top, then bomb down the hill and through the Epic KOM banner to begin your descent long descent back to sea level. Soon enough you’ll find yourself back on Ocean Boulevard, riding through the Fishing Village. Almost done!

An easy snaking climb onto the main Watopian loop takes you through the Italian Villas and over the forward sprint segment, then it’s The Esses and a quick descent into downtown Watopia for the finish. Nice work!

The animation at the top of the page seems to be for the Mountain Route. The blue profile graphic appears to be correct though. The tracing on the graphic should be going anti clockwise. The Mountain Route page is correct for its course though (I just spent too long trying to figure out the difference in the routes!)

I meant anti clockwise over the Epic KOM, to be clear.

Looks like the strava segement link goes to the Epic Kom forward, not the reverse like the Mountain 8 route has. This is a nice little route for snapping the legs awake.

The link to forward from start pier links back to this page, it should go to https://www.strava.com/segments/16587068

If chasing a time on this route, is it worth swapping to a TT bike from my Canyon Aeroad 2021 at the top of the Radio Tower?

So, today I intended to grab the Mountain 8 badge and just saw Eric’s, “Helpful note: before you destroy yourself chasing a Strava PR on the reverse Epic KOM, be warned: this route turns you onto the radio tower “bonus climb” before the Epic KOM banner….”

After I made the turn up towards the tower, I noticed my my “route distance traveled” bar at the top of the screen disappeared about half-way to the tower. Does that usually happen on this route? Unfortunately, I ended the ride at that point since I had to head to work.

Two questions: 1) when I ride the route again, should I just keep going even though the bar disappears (if it does again) and 2) if you skip the “bonus climb” do you still get the route badge if you complete the rest? Thanks.

Today I rode the mountain 8 route with TDZ 2024 in a really smashing time, with my best 1hr power in years. What a disappointment to find out I actually rode “Mountain 8 from Start Pier”, and not “Mountain 8” which is in the veloviewer leaderboard.
Isn’t it possible to adjust the segment for the leaderboard to avoid this? I believe it has been done for other routes as well, like the four horsemen.

Would it be possible to create a Strava segment going from the foot of Epic Rev to the top of Radio Tower?
