“Itza Party” Route Details (Watopia)
Is it a party? Not exactly, although most of the route’s roads could be described as “rolling”. The one-way route begins with a climb, ends with a climb, and has one more thrown into the middle just for fun!

Route Description

Route profile by ZwiftHub – the place to plan and track your route achievements!
Starting from the downtown Watopia start pens, we head straight up the Hilly KOM, a climb that will surely force a major selection in any race. Then it’s down through the Ocean Boulevard tunnel and two right turns to take on the rollercoaster roads of Titans Grove, which include the Titans Grove Reverse KOM – our next major selection point!
Once you finish that KOM you can settle in for a while, as there are no big climbs for the next 24 kilometers. But the hills are coming!
After a pleasant ride along Watopia’s southern coast, you’ll turn right to head up the two KOMs which mark the end of this route. First it’s the Mayan Mountainside KOM, followed by the longer Itza KOM. These are both very draftable climbs, so surf the wheels if you’re racing. The route ends at the Itza KOM banner.

Points on an event-only route? Does that mean it won’t be event-only forever?
Maybe, maybe not. The trend lately has been for Zwift to do achievement badges for all routes, not just the open ones.
Huh?
Just super anxious for the new route!!!!
It’s going to make for a long, lonely race course if you don’t make the first selection up the Zwift KOM!
There might be more like you. A ‘losers’ peleton 🙂
A groupetto 😉
I’ll be in!
That sound like me, Road more than half of Sea Breeze stage 4 alone today.
That one scares me more than the longer climbs due to the high watts you have to put out.. And with Titan’s after it and the long rolling route down the coast, you are correct. You really need to be in a good group through there.
Why can’t we select this route for a group ride? It doesn’t show up on the courses we can select for our group ride on Zwift?
True, but there are a bunch of new climbing routes. Very diverse and tough. Check them out.
The main trouble with climbing routes is that its hard to keep people together during the ride. Lower category riders tend to struggle and it may be hard for them to keep up and higher category riders may be tempted to push it. Furthermore sweeping on a climbing route is hard. On a route like Itza party you can save the hard part till the end and you can let riders go at that point.
Yes, routes with these long climbs are very rough for group rides. They are much better for racing, Fundo or Tour of Zwift events.
So many great new climbing routes! That addition hooking into the Epic created so many diverse possibilities. I rode the Mayan Mash blind yesterday and just loved it.
How can you have an “event only” route with no scheduled events?
This one was used for the ZRL Summer Series race 3. They advertised it as an exclusive route. I assume it will become available for all events in the near future.
It is the first stage of Chasing Yellow on June 29th.
Do we have the ability to sign up for this yet? I mean it’s 26 June and it starts 29 June correct? I don’t see any place to sign up or sign in. Any insight on this?
Sign up for what? Are you talking about the Chasing Yellow stage race? If so, learn about signing up at https://zwiftinsider.com/chasing-yellow-21-stage-grand-tour-begins-june-29/
Hi Eric,
I signed up for the event via the website, but I don’t see the event listed in the zwift companion app list for Saturday? What am I doing wrong?
I think you have to sign up to the race time you want through the website. There is a race pass section and it lists the times with links to the Zwift page for each race. Not 100% sure though!
Yeah. Thanks. Finally figured it out. I expected that races would be listed on the comp app and folks not registered wouldn’t be allowed to register. Just like all the other race leagues. Doh. Not this time. lol.
Chasing Series works more like ZRL, where all events are private and you only get access to them via your login for the series.
can you manually navigate this route like the old rebel routes and still collect the achievement badge?
No. To earn a route badge it has to be set by the game as the route you’re riding. (Or to put it another way: the game has to do the navigation for you for it to count.)
But, now ‘new’ segment not matching when already rode it?
Just done this route today, by selecting route then added a custom workout, left 1.1 km to finish, continued to free ride to n]banner then right turn at junctiob]n downhill and then it put me into laps of the roundabout! However, Strava is not picking up the segment for the complete route?
Strava segment is not good for the free ride of the route… It starts on the boardwalk coming down from the starting pens
Looks like a new segment was created. For anyone looking for the original segment it’s at https://www.strava.com/segments/37098941
This is a sub 60 min route according to the Routes tab in Zwift..
Good luck with that! 😂
I have a brief observation about the official route details before I ride this today: the idea that the average swifter can complete this 45 km route in less than an hour is strange. Maybe zwift can update the expected ride time.
Didn’t mean to repeat earlier comments, just not observant enough. 🙂
Great route, really enjoyed it.
Why is there a new Strava route for this one?
The start point was moved forward so it always matches
