3-Stage Off the MAAP Series Announced for December 2-22

Zwift has just announced this year’s Off the MAAP series, a multi-stage cycling tour returning for its fifth year to the platform.

Held in collaboration with the Melbourne-born apparel brand MAAP, this series has historically proven very popular among Zwifters, with hundreds of thousands participating over the years thanks to a fun mix of courses and kit unlocks! This year has more events than ever (hourly), making it feel like the next big tour on Zwift now that Tour of Watopia has wrapped up.

Route Debut: Power to the Portal

The final stage of this year’s Off the MAAP features the debut of brand-new Watopia route named “Power to the Portal“. This route is unlike any other in game because it routes you through Watopian roads including the new Jarvis Island before delivering you to the Watopia Climb Portal, where you’ll ride the day’s featured climb.

Stage 3 places riders on Power to the Portal, which will finish on the Climb Portal’s version of Australia’s famous Old Willunga Hill. A fitting finish!

Route and Schedule Details

Each of the stages lasts one week, and events are scheduled hourly throughout the day for the duration of each stage.

Makeup events: Zwift has scheduled three days of makeup events beginning at 12:15am UTC December 21 and ending at 11:45pm UTC December 23.

Register now at zwift.com/events/series/off-the-maap-zwift >

Is this a race?

Not officially – Off the MAAP events are set up as group rides and won’t count toward ZwiftPower ranking points, Zwift Racing Score, etc. That said, cyclists know it only takes two riders on the same route to make a race!

Many riders will be racing these events, and if you want to go hard you are free to do so, just as you’re free to ride at whatever pace you’d like!

Kit Unlocks

There are three separate unlocks for this series: a cap, socks, and the new 2024 MAAP kit:

  • Finish stage 1 to get the kit (jersey + bibs)
  • Finish stage 2 to unlock the socks
  • Finish stage 3 to unlock the cap

Like the in-game kit? Series finishers (all 3 stages) will be sent a link where you can purchase the exclusive IRL kit from MAAP:

Finishers will also get a chance to enter a giveaway on MAAP.cc where a winner and their plus one will be invited to watch the Tour Down Under live in Australia!

Except that there is a fourth, “Victory Lap”? Looks like it was removed, above? Maybe it exists but not for unlocks? Idk.

And what does Finish stage 1 to get the kit mean if Finish all 3 stages to unlock the kit (jersey + bibs). What does stage 1 bag you if not jersey & bibs? 😕

Is there a Fondo series this year?

That’s really sad. Any idea why they cancelled this series? I always thought they were very popular, and didn’t require that much of an organisation either.

When searching for events, there’s a specific toggle for fondo’s, which is completely forgotten and becomes useless this way…

To be honest much of the 10 year anniversary stuff was disappointing. Jarvis island reveal, as somebody who has only been Zwifting for three months, it was not close to worth the build up. Bought a one year subscription, really like the “Play” controllers too, but I’ll knock everything out in a year at this rate, or close to it. I think I have 80 or so route badges, including several of the longer ones – like 4 horsemen.

I need more long routes. I mean, AdZ being included in several routes is cool – plan on attempting a double Quatch soon, but they need more 80-100 mile routes you can do.

Thanks (as usual) for the info. Zwift sent me an email about this that explained none of this, with a link to a signup page that also explained nothing. Their media people need to get out of their bubble.

I had the same, clicked the link, waited for the Zwift website to open (it always takes an age for me), then gave up and came to ZI.

I think Zwift often gets unfairly criticised, but it’s poor when the main site is less useful than what was originally a fansite (and a big compliment to Eric that his site is better than the official one)

Absolutely (compliment to Eric). I came here to get the skinny since the Zwift site had such vague info on this event.

To get the kit, do I have to finish Stage 1 or any single stage? It’s a bit unclear to me.

While I am already happy with the matching socks, which gets forgotten a lot in kits, but now I am wondering. Is there a reason why we hardly get matching gloves in events like these ?

I complain each year this should be a race not set as a group ride, because people race it anyway. But until ZRS has the “not a race effort” algorithm in place then this is the first year I’m happy it’s a group ride.

just did stage one and got the full kit (with hat and socks) fwiw.
assuming the incentive to do all 3 (aside from fun) is that you can buy the IRL kit

yeah exactly, I think that was not intentional, as these multi stage tours usually have staggered unlocks, not “everything after one ride”.

Rode stage one today and got the jersey/shorts but no hat or socks- I guess they fixed something. Guess I’ll have to ride more!

Those socks are recycled assets from 2022 Off the Maap, it looks like, albeit slightly pixelated. But we all know 2021 was the best kit unlock of all.

Is there any way to make up a missed stage? I noticed there was no way to join even a minute late this for these events, even if you signed up prior to the event. Thanks for the great info!

According to Zwifthacks there are two make up days. 21 and 22 december where they do all three rides again during the day.

There seems to be another issue or an even longer backlog. I finished the series on the 17th and still haven’t got the link while receiving several other e-mails from Zwift e.g. the Rapha Festive 500.

Did you ever receive a link for the kit IRL? If so, how long did it take? Finished my make up Stage 1 about an hour ago just not sure if this is hours or days.

I finished the ride today but it shows as a DNF. Where does the official event end? At the top of the climb? I saw no end to the ride so I went downward and finished the Power to the Portal route but also nothing. Weird

I entered this event 12:05GMT 19th of December and rode in total 27.5km. Went up the and down the Old Willunga Hill and somehow didn’t complete this event. Bizarre.

Doesn’t seem like there’s any make up stages on the 23rd. 🤷‍♂️

Disgruntled Zwifter

FYI: There’s no point in finishing the stages at this point if you’re looking to purchase the kit. The “exclusive” purchase link is publicly accessible (even to those that didn’t complete the event) and most items are already sold out: https://maap.cc/us/zwift-complete.

MAAP Support has also said there will no be restock:
“Our Zwift collection has been so popular it sold out faster than anticipated! I regret to say that we do not have any restock plan for that! We understand the disappointment, but don’t worry—we still have some other Zwift accessories available that you might like. Additionally, the styles are still available in other regions, so if you have friends or family in those areas, they may be able to grab them for you. Just let us know if you’d like assistance on how they can order it!”
