“Power to the Portal” Route Details (Watopia)

Animated Route Map
Animated map provided by ZwiftHacks

First unveiled in stage 3 of Off the MAAP 2024, this route has the potential to be something very special and unique in the world of Zwift. Right now, it routes you through Watopian roads including the new Jarvis Island before delivering you to the Watopia Climb Portal to ride the day’s featured climb (see Climb Portal schedule).

But there’s more: contacts within Zwift tell us the plan is to allow event organizers to select which climb is used on this route, opening up a world of possibilities since the route could feature any one of the 35+ climbs in the Portal!

(Note: our ZIMetrics below do not include the Climb Portal portion of this route.)

Route Description

This route begins in downtown Watopia, with a short lead-in to the start line on Ocean Boulevard. From there, you’ll travel through the ocean tunnel before surfacing at the marina’s Fishing Village and riding the snaking climb up and out to the Italian Villas.

A quick left takes you down the Dirty Sorpressa and toward the Volcano via the land bridge, then another left takes you onto the Jarvis Island loop in a clockwise direction. You’ll first hit the Jarvis Sprint Reverse, then climb up the Jarvis KOM Reverse and down the other side past the Banjo Cafe and through the lap banner.

When you exit the Jarvis loop, you’ll get back onto the Volcano Circuit CW loop you had already begun. This is where the magic happens!

A left turn off of the Volcano Circuit road takes you out to the Climb Portal entrance. (By default, riding this route will take riders onto the day’s scheduled climb. But we hear that Zwift plans to allow event organizers to select which climb riders are taken to, which effectively turns this route into many routes!)

Event organizers may have your ride end at the top of the climb for a mountaintop finish. Or they may have your ride continue to the end of the Power to the Portal route. If they choose the later, you’ll ride the circle road atop the climb, then descend what you just ascended, before exiting the Climb Portal.

From that exit, you have less than 3km to the finish line. Ride back into downtown Watopia, then head out on Ocean Boulevard for the finish line, which is the same as the start line for the route.

But there is a route like it already? The standard Climb Portal Route is a route with lead in + 1 lap of Volcano Circuit?

No, it’s just a very short lead in unless you choose to go around manually

Is there any indication if there’s a route badge available for this (I’m thinking of when it’s available for Off the Maap specifically)

Any idea if something like this will be opened up to all users so that we can select the portal climb ourselves. Would be great to have option of trying to complete all the climbs and having somewhere that shows which climbs you’ve completed etc, similar to normal routes.

Just finished Stage 3 Off the Maap (route and portal), but there was no unlock and no indication that the route was complete, although did the route 1.5x. Anyone else have this issue. The challenge is also not found in the app as before to track progress. It is only in Events.

It would be helpful if both the total distance and the total elevation gain were given in the route for that day. I saw the correct distance for Off the MAAP stage 3 (11.5 mi), but the total elevation for the event was about 1150′ rather than the 333′ given in the app. (Willunga Hill was the climb; the 333′ is what you do to get to the portal.) One can plan better for time constraints if both were accurate.

I just completed Off the MAAP Stage 3, thinking that the Power ups would be the same as normal Climb Portal (Feather, 10xp & 250XP), but to my disappointment it wasn’t, the Power ups were Feather, Drafting and Sprint. Drafting and Sprint are a waste of time on a climb.
Don’t think I’ll do this again, unless there is a chance of 250xp Power up
