Zwift’s “ZRacing” is the platform’s most popular ongoing race series, and in June, riders are taking on courses with lots of banners so we can earn lots of bonus XP! Read on for details…
Bonus XP
This month’s races are all about bonus XP.

You’ll earn a chunk of XP for each stage you complete, plus every banner you ride through will deliver either a 10 XP bonus or (33% of the time) the big 250 XP bonus! 2000 XP is available as stage bonuses:
- 1 Stage = 1000 XP
- 2 Stages = 500 XP
- 3 Stages = 200 XP
- 4 Stages = 200 XP
- 5 Stages = 100 XP

What if we don’t care about XP ?
I don’t ride Zwift to get XP, I ride Zwift to get a social, fun and hard racing experience.
This trend to give extra XP everywhere is not valuable for already experienced riders (lvl 76 here, and I don’t care to go on lvl 100).
I suppose that the silent mass must love XP…
I did love XP and tried to get every bonus XP possible until I got to level 40 two weeks ago.
Now that I can buy everything in the dropshop, I don’t care about XP at all anymore 🙂
But you need drops to buy things? XP equals levelling up & over level 100 each level gives 50,000 drops. I am just over level 100 & levelling up Tron so very grateful for this 🙂👍
Ah but you can’t if you want a top of the range bike or to get one of the fancybikes you have to up grade say the venge 5 times which cost drops everytime, so to upgrade the Tron , you have to upgrade , you need to upgrade 5 zwift bikes before you can start on the Tron.. having said that if you have done all that , I apologise
Earning XP can be an extra source of motivation, but for most people it isn’t the main reason. For me, 95% of it is about the enjoyment of taking part in competitions, and 5% is about the XP.
What I find a shame, however, is that we always stick to the same race format (around 20 km and a slightly hilly course).
A shame.
Put a little piece of tape over the XP then you can pretend it doesn’t exist. Or have we misunderstood the hardship?
then don’t care about XP, sorted
not sure why you’re telling us tho, on a story about XP
as for the masses being silent, oh boy…
the longest threads on the Zwift forums are about 2 subjects Racing and XP/ Levels,
nothing gets the mob out, full pitchforks at dawn, like a change to XP and Levels.
What do you want instead?
Exactly. I don’t care about XP but I’m more interested in drops.
I have 121 Million drops so they can’t be hard to get 😉
I’ll take some donation. I only have 2.8 million drops after reaching LV 40 😀
I would slightly lean more towards drops over XP at this point in time. Only because my current goal would require for me to have drops. I’m sure it would be the other way around once I accomplish that goal.
I see that I’ve been massively downvoted.
You’re all right : if I don’t care about care about XP, let’s not care :-p
Have fun, guys !
lvl 76 is still a baby… stop kidding yourself
Oh great! I do need to do more road racing & this is an excellent incentive 🎉
Eric, it seems the filters for the upcoming events are incorrect (the list are empty).
I’m wondering if it might be the filters for the previous zwift races ‘4×4’ (see the fourth link)?
Fixed!
And the banners (range 1, range 2, advanced) are inactive 😊
Fixed!
Man I literally just did Queens Highway today. Why such close-term reuse of courses
This course was also particularly brutal because there’s really no long periods of rest. It’s up and down with a final kick in them mouth all the way to the finish line! Is it too late to get a new route?!
Brutal yes but somehow I really enjoyed that course. The many climbs are short and punchy and suit a different type of rider that the longer climbs in other courses. Overall I think this new series is a good mix of some flatter and some hillier courses.
Don’t care much about the XP but they don’t do any harm and also provide no benefit to the race – so no powerup lottery this time!
You say that we earn a bunch of XP for each stage we complete, but nowhere do you say how much. I hope it isn’t just the route completion bonus.
Added above. I was waiting on confirmation from Zwift HQ on the particulars…
Thanks, Eric.
I don’t understand why the bonuses are being reduced as you go along; shouldn’t it be the other way round, to encourage people to complete all the races? 🤔
My guess is they’re trying to get people to dip their toe in and just take part in the series.
Was the 4 by 4 a one hit wonder? I like the idea but I imagine that most joined the distance, course, and format that they usually race. I would probably do an epic (in the winter) or a time trial from time to time but most often a 30 to 40 minute heart attack is my limit.
I don’t race much, but did 3 TTs and an Epic during the 4×4. My plan was to do the crit race today, but my legs felt up to doing the TT, which I like.
you’re not entirely wrong, but the variety leads more occasional racers into racing and gives em an incentive to try new things.
I do think they could have incentivized a bit more variety, with higher bonuses for trying one of each or restrictions.
Didn’t we JUST have Queens Highway AfterParty like this week?
Ever since Zwift switched to the ZRacing category format, racing has become much less enjoyable for me.
My Race Score is around 750, which puts me in the Advanced category. For some reason, Advanced races are only scheduled every two hours, so as someone who trains around work and childcare commitments, it’s often difficult to find a race that fits my schedule.
Even when I do manage to join one, there are usually only a handful of participants. On top of that, the courses are almost always short, punchy, interval-style routes. With so few riders, the field often splits apart early, and the race turns into a lonely solo effort (or maybe a two-person ride) for most of the event. Honestly, the racing experience has been pretty poor.
Lately I’ve found myself spending most of my Zwift time riding with RoboPacers while watching videos, and it’s making me question what the point of Zwift racing even is anymore.
Is anyone else feeling the same way?
I’d much rather see larger fields and more road-race-style events, even if that means broader categories and less precise matchmaking.
So how do you propose getting larger fields if you have more races so you can find one that’s fits your schedule?
I guess the only way to do this would be getting rid of the Range 1 – Range 2 – Advanced categories and run the races in the 5 standard ranges (0-179, 180-349, 350-519, 520-689 and 690-1000) used for smaller events, thereby annoying other people who’ll complain because they are at the lower end of their cat. Or do standard ranges at even hours and Range 2 + Advanced at odd hours so everyone can race at every hour.
BTW it seems like Advanced is scheduled hourly at least during weekday Europe evening primetime but not for US; is race participation in Europe bigger than in the US?
Yep it’s difficult. I think Zwift do a decent job in offering two series below Advanced level to avoid complaints about too wide a gap in expertise as well as striking a balance of enough races to be flexible but not too many to end up with too smaller race groups. As somebody who is on the cusp of moving from D to C I like the racing score concept as when I race in C groups I get blown away. I am not one who cares about winning but just nice to race with people of a similar rating….
While Zwift Racing Score is unfortunately still being used for monthly Zracing races, I’d like to see the hourly alternating between ranges 1 and 2 replaced by alternating the range each month.
So for example June would use range 1 pens, switching to range 2 pens in July.
I did race the first stage yesterday but i don´t show up in the GC….
any ideas why?
Dont forget: When riding that 10 Min cool down after the race, the banner are still configured as part of the race. So u still get the XP bonus.
I just finished stage 3 for the second time today and only received one 250xp for the 8 gates. What happened to the 33%?
I’ve noticed the same on the climb portal for the last 4 months or so, hardly any 250 xp gates.
Is there a ‘catch up’ week? I missed week 2..
There is not. There never is for zRacing.
