Zwift’s workout mode is a powerful, flexible training tool. The ability to create custom workouts makes it so you or your coach can lock in precise workouts tailored specifically to your needs.
Custom workouts are typically created from within the Zwift game, since doing so is quite simple. In fact, with just a little practice, you can lay out a custom workout in less than a minute! (If you need to create a workout but aren’t on a computer running Zwift, check out ZWOFactory.)
Here are the simple steps to creating a custom workout from within Zwift.
Step 1: Press the “Training” button to access workouts
Step 2: Under “Custom Workouts” click “Create a new workout”
Step 3: Drag and drop elements from the right-hand bar, creating your workout
The quickest way to figure this out is to just do it. The interface is intuitive and simple. Give it a try!
Step 4: Save your workout
Make sure to give your workout a sensible title (at the top of the screen) then click “Save”. You can always edit the workout later.
Step 5: Click “Workout” and start sweating!
That’s it. Now the real work begins… time to complete that workout!

hi eric, i’m trying to see how it’s possible to copy events/modules instead of dropping them and redoing them for all intervals.
Especially when there are progressions with with fixed cadence numbers to hit, or intervals to do 3x times, it’ll be ideal to program just 1 and then copy it as many times as desired. Have you found a way to do so?
I haven’t and it’ frustrating. please let me know if you have any inside tip.
thank you!
You can edit the .zwo file in the “My documents” Folder
Way to technical for me and I dare say most users!
Totally agree. I am creating loads now and the lack of a ‘COPY AND PASTE’ option is mindblowingly annoying. Creating blocks of short VO2 repeats is massively time consuming and fiddly. Would love the ability as you say, to create one bock, then copy and paste it as needed. Apart from this missing feature I think its a great tool.
is it possible to create a custom workout and use it on a group ride ?
Hey Eric, just checking if you can share a custom built workout with followers or if you can use on a group ride where everyone can see it? thanks for a great site…
Not easy, but can be done. See https://zwiftinsider.com/load-custom-workouts/
Can you develop a mobile phone function that develops workouts , and allows you to schedule them the next day
I’m not Zwift – just a fan site! So your answer is “no”. 😛
Is there a time limit of how long the workout can be; I am not able to build a workout pass 1:04 minutes?
No limit that I know of. Certainly a 64-minute limit!
HI how i can change folder for my own and put my workout? thx
Hi Eric, thanks a lot for all your job. Is it possible to create a workout with HR zone instead of Watts Zone ? I think no, but maybe there is a hack ? Do you know if Zwift is thinking about this ? (sorry if it’s not clear I’m French).
I tried this on the Zwift app on my iPhone, but under Custom Workouts is just “Browse by Tags” and “Downloaded” – no button for “Create a New workout”. Has something changed, or won’t it work from an iPhone?
And what about the AppleTV I run Zwift on at home?
is it possible to create a custom workout and use it on a group ride ?
I don’t have the option to “create a workout” from the custom workouts screen. Is this only available on an actual computer or should I also be able to see this when running iOS? I’m going in circles here🤷♀️
Hi where you able this out? Having the same issue.
Can you choose your course on zwift to suit the workout, eg Fuego flats for this? Thanks, Clare.
Yep. You can select any course you’d like, along with any workout you’d like.
Hello Eric. I’ve been able to create cycling workouts, however have not been able to create running workouts. Is that an option? Am I missing something that is right in front of me? Thank you for!
Can you share a custom work out with others
or cosmetics. Looking forward for it!
Hello, I would like to simulate a road with 8% inclination. How can Indo that as a custom workout ?
Workouts don’t simulate gradients. You could simply control your trainer using a phone app or bike computer and set it to 8%, then don’t pair your trainer as a “Controllable Trainer” in Zwift. That will give you that 8% feel, while you’re riding around Zwift. (Or even outside of Zwift).
is it possible to workout on a group ride ?
Can you create custom workouts through the Zwift app on your cell phone?
