Tour de Zwift 2025 just wrapped up last week. Held during “Peak Zwift” time, TdZ is Zwift’s marquee annual group ride/run event – and it showed! Participation numbers seemed especially strong this year, with hundreds showing up to every ride I saw.
But it’s hard to gauge just how big TdZ is overall, without access to Zwift’s backend data analytics. So I reached out to Zwift with a request for some numbers, and they took the time to gather those stats so I could share them here. Let’s dive in!
Zwifter Counts

- Total registered for TdZ: 342k
Zwifters could register via the web, signing up in game, or by completing a TdZ event. So this figure doubtless includes some folks who clicked to register, but never actually rode a TdZ event. - Total who finished all 6 stages:
- Cycling: 85,958
- Running: 1,798
The Ultimate Challenge

Arguably the biggest “new feature” at this year’s TdZ was “The Ultimate Challenge.” This was for riders only, and required you to complete all 18 routes featured in this year’s Tour. (Routes could be completed in events, or as on-demand efforts.)
It was a bit of an “under the radar” challenge, but Zwift did help things along by creating a temporary personal dashboard at zwift.com (which has since been taken down) where you could monitor which routes you still needed to check off. I used it to determine I still had three routes left heading into make-up week!
So how many Zwifters finished the Ultimate Challenge? Here are some stats:
- Total Ultimate Challenge finishers: 11,427
- Total who completed at least half of the Ultimate Challenge (9 separate TdZ routes): 40,263
- Total who completed all rides AND runs (the Ultimate Ultimate Challenge?): 346
Zwift’s own Jon Mayfield and Leah Thorvilson are in this group.
Totals

It’s always amazing to look at the accumulated totals from all Zwifters in big events like Tour de Zwift. Check it out…
- Total distance covered in TdZ 2025 events: 37,316,561 kilometers
Or around the Earth 931 times. Or to the Moon and back… 48 times! - Total elevation climbed in TdZ 2025 events: 390,238,173 meters
That’s 44,100 Everests! - Total time accumulated between all TdZ 2025 activities: 1,206,646 hours
That’s 50,276+ days of continuous riding… or 137+ years! - Total Ride Ons given and/or received during TdZ 2025 events: 27.6 million
That’s an average of 23 Ride Ons per rider-hour, meaning riders gave or received, on average, 23 Ride Ons per hour while in TdZ events. - Total TdZ 2025 event completions:
- Rides: 1,119,338
- Runs: 27,510
- Most popular cycling route in this year’s TdZ events: Petite Douleur
This “Little Pain” of a route began its life as a Rebel Route I created back in August of 2020, so it’s fun to see its popularity in TdZ! - Most popular running route in this year’s TdZ events: Park to Peak
Previous Year Comparison
Zwift was happy to share that this year’s TdZ stats were up from last year’s TdZ, across the board.
The most notable change was the total number of graduates (~86k this year, up from 69k last year), although this was admittedly helped along by the reduction in total stages from 8 to 6.
Questions or Comments?
I had a great time in this year’s TdZ events, whether I was racing the group ride or just spinning away in zone 2 to knock out the route as part of the Ultimate Challenge.
What about you? How was your TdZ experience? Any ideas for improvement you want to share? I’m sure Zwift HQ will be watching the comments on this post, so please share your feedback below…
Cool, I’m one of the 346 that was a completionist for both running and biking. I was really curious what that number would be like so thanks for scratching that itch!
Me too!! Feel like I’m part of a pretty exclusive club now! I just wish I could wear my Ultimate Challenge beanie when running.
Me too! Yeah, whoa, I didn’t expect that number to be so small. I didn’t get a treadmill until the last day of week three, so I had a couple of runs to do in the make-up week. Week 4 run was not fun, considering I haven’t really done any running for a couple of years!
Me too, so 342 remains anonymous
Another here…340ish remain!
Kudos to all those in the 346. From one of the just ordinary 11,427.
I dabble a bit with running. Higher run mileage weeks tend to mess up my calves and cycling. So, I’m impressed at the people completing the dual ultimate challenge.
Same here, actually feels a bit special 🙂
*cycling
So basically each of us is 1/3 of the percent of the 0.1% of all registered. Nice!
I’m one of the 346 also! Congrats!
I wonder among the 346 masochist completionists, how many of us have all 272 current achievements in the game since we run and cycle? My ZwiftApp shows 271 since I don’t have the Olympian hidden one. My treadmill tops out at exactly a 5:00 mile and I saw sparks and could have died trying, and based on reported data, I achieved 5:04 pegged firmly in Zone 5.
Actually, I have been curious to know for a while, how many Zwifters have all achievements, all achievements-1 and all achievements-2… …-5, since there is a relatively low amount of Zwifters who are all-in on both running and cycling. There are plenty of all-in runners and all-in cyclists, separately, but for the triathletes among us (rest in peace, Zwift Rowing), this achievement metric might be all which unites us.
yea – count me in.
I just wish there could be a bit more focus on the running part – more festivitas 🙂
Actually the only reason why I run indoors is because I have to run at night since I have to do my biking as well as my strength training haha.
What an honour to be part of 346 finishers. I am happy about that and congrats to all conquering these challenges
Wow, another of the 346 here! Happy to be in this group at my ripe age hahaha. This so great to recognize those du-athletes here in Zwift. If only they can figure out how to simulate the swim!
Congrats to all of you here!

Ride ons are more like 23k per hour
Hmmm… are you sure?
1.2 million hours of TdZ activities
27.6 million Ride Ons
I think the 27,600,000 Ride Ons should be divided by the 1,152 clock hours between Jan 6 and Feb 23 (rather than activity hours), which is very close to 24,000 Ride Ons per hour.
There are lots of ways to slice the data.
if counted in that sense, yeah. I just counter total hours of the event
Based on the maths it is 23 but surely this isn’t right as that’s incredibly low. Maybe one of the other numbers is incorrect making this low.
My figure of 23 is the average Ride Ons per rider-hour, meaning riders gave or received, on average, 23 Ride Ons per hour while in TdZ events.
Yes, I suppose you could compute the total number of Ride Ons given per hour, on average, during the TdZ’s dates (Jan 6-Feb 23), which would be 1176 hours, so 23,469 Ride Ons given+received on average each hour.
Another one of the 346 here. It was great that there was an official ultimate challenge. It provided an incentive to complete what I have often attempted to complete in past years.
Just a pity I was so unwell at the start and missed the first 2 stages. Then missed catchup week as well.
My bad. 🙁
Nice article and Interesting stats. My suggestions. Keep the short rides short, less than 30 minutes, and those who take a coffee break get 3 minutes added to their time 😁
Not a fan of those who use their coffee break for hills.
I’m pretty sure they don’t care what you think.
Totally agree.
Coffee Break is very useful for its intended purpose… quick toilet break, answer the door, fill a bottle, etc… but it’s very funny to watch all the hangers on dropping their coffee bombs on a hill.
I would like it to be unavailable on anything 3% or above… and yes, I’m normal sized, not Zwift sized.
Why does it matter to you what other people do with their coffee break? I mean, these are rides and not races.
If you are that consumed by ambition that you can’t stand someone making his/her life a bit more easy, than maybe you might be the problem and not them. Could it be?
I would totally agree with you if it was a race, but coffee breaks are not available in races so maybe start minding your own business…
I bet you’re a blast at a party. I think that the coffee stop is a great tool.
I imagine the popularity of Petite Douleur was helped by the unpopularity of the alternative routes. 🙂
Solid theory!
Given that was the ride that made me turn off comments/chat in group rides with everyone whinging about the other two routes, I’d not be surprised.
(I should say, I did all 3 as I did the Ultimate Challenge)
I’m surprised only 11k completed the ultimate challenge but pleased to be in that number. A nice addition to TdZ
Maybe we could get something that yells Ultimate when you pass another rider. Just in case they failed to notice the ultimate jersey.
I was surprised as well. And happy to have finished it. I saved all the climbing for last – which was a dumb move. That last week almost did me in!
You mentioned that it happened during peak zwift, but no update about peak zwift?
Your everest math is wrong isn’t it? 390,24M meters / 8848,86m => ~44,100 everests not 34,946?
LOL. How did I get that wrong? Guess I should have done the math twice. 🙄 Updated above!
8848.68*34946=309,225,971.28, so give or take rounding error, I suspect you used 309… rather than 390…
I really enjoyed Tdz this year. It was especially fun completing the Ultimate. It did take me a couple of weeks to realise I didn’t need to complete all routes as a group ride, so that made it a little easier. Bring on Zwift Games now and more card challenges, please!!
Enjoyed this year’s TdZ. A couple of suggestions for tweaks to the format:
Out of curiosity, does the 85,958 number include everyone who did all 6 stages or only riders who did all 6 in group rides?
(I had to hammer out the ultimate challenge in the final 2.5 weeks so I did everything during workouts and not a single group ride)
To finish the stages for the purposes of TdZ graduation, you had to do them as events. So this number is just the folks who finished them as events.
Nice to know I am one in 346 also!
Eric thanks for the tip about doing some of them in Zone 2! That got me through so I could complete the ultimate challenge.
Anyone here recieved an email from Zwift with a code for a free ZwiftPlay controllers??
Yes, last week. 2 months after I purchased a pair… 😠
TDZ is great, it gives me real structure, ticking off routes and rides each week. The only problem is I feel lost at the end of it. No scheduled, group activity to tick off certain routes. Couldn’t they do mini tours, a bit like in professional cycling. I know they do the Watopia one but couldn’t they do a mini tour of all worlds? Making three or four grand tours with some smaller ones in between?
