Rocacorba is a world-famous climb thanks to its length, varied pitches, and proximity to Girona (a haven for pro riders).
Named for the 12th-century Santuari de Rocacorba which sits on a little hill near the summit, the real-life climb hosts a fun bit of Zwift trivia: 2020 eSports World Champ Ashleigh Moolman Pasio holds the Strava QOM by a good margin, and Zwift Academy 2020 winner turned pro Jay Vine held the KOM for over 2 years, losing it only recently to Paul Double.
While trees mostly obscure the views on the way up, the road was paved in 2006 and gets very little auto traffic… making it perfect for cyclists!
According to locals, a good rule of thumb is to aim for a time that is your age plus ten minutes. The rule holds true on Zwift!
Here’s an IRL segment that nearly matches Zwift’s:
Any idea when this one will appear on the calendar ?
Nov 1!
looking forward to next week =)
“According to locals, a good rule of thumb is to aim for a time that is your age plus ten minutes. The rule holds true on Zwift!”
I’m 33, so I have to aim for 43 minutes. That’s like 3.5 W/kg, on average?! Damn….
Bad news for all the 10 year olds on Zwift
LOL
Great I am almost 71,so I can take it easy
Ditto! See you on the slope!
Did it,and I beat it with almost 7 minutes, ride on Kimbo!
🤣 literally the same situation for me, guidance time of 74 mins is hopeful
Did it today under 74 minutes, give my best on the steep parts, thanks Eric!
71 and with 2w/kg.
So 80 minutes for me. Sounds doable. ☠️😁🚵🏼♂️
The KQOM’s for this need to be protected in Strava from the likes of Zwifters…just sayin…
Virtual segments are separate from real-world segments. The only people competing for the Zwift segment KQOM will be Zwifters.
Nice…, I forgot about that. Just thinking about how many times I look at Zwift segments and see superhuman efforts with not enough HR to run a hampster wheel 😂
Sooooooo excited this climb is now available! Been waiting for this one for a while. Calculations appear to be almost exactly spot on. Completed it in 39:47 @ 3.977 w/k. One very weird thing I noticed is that when you do the first lap in the portal, there’s a “completion” bar that gradually fills up blue. Once you descend back down and exit the portal, you have to take a left and go another 3/4 mile for the bar to fill out and then the checkered flag logo changes to the word “complete”. I hadn’t seen that in the Madone… Read more »
The BEST thing about this climb for me is that it’s almost a direct mirror of my favorite climb in New Mexico: Ski Apache outside Ruidoso. 7.01 miles @ 6.4% with 2364 feet total climbing for that vs 7.38 miles @ 6.3% with 2475 feet total climbing for this one. Didn’t even realize that before.
That’s the full climb Portal route to get the route badge. I had done 4 or 5 before realising.
Zwift says ( on their forum ) you get credit for the climb at the top – you do not have to descend and “complete” the route.
I did the climb yesterday and like the day before in col de la Madone, it did not registered the time I did in the first arch.Even more, going downhill, all the archs were with a star excep the number 9 that sitll had the number, as if I hadn’t go through it. But at the top, it show me my lib time and also appear in the leaderboard. Probably a glitch in the programming.
I’ve seen that quite often as well. The #9 segment doesn’t register a time, and doesn’t change to a star.
Qucik question, are they still planing to add climb reduction itineraries in the portal? It weren’t available last month neither yesterday. Not that we need them.
Did this last night, graduent briefly touches 43% at one point just for show! But thought it was a really good one and quite relentless at times
I saw 48%. Quite a punch in the gut!
Can you do a workout on a climb portal climb? Do you just have to choose the right world and navigate to the portal?
Yep.
Damn… It’s going to take me 36 years and 10 minutes to do this?! No thanks!
Hello, can I organize a meet up on Rocacorba?
I did this, thinking I was going to be riding “in France” as the route says, only to take off into the ether after passing thru the Portal…didn’t know what was going on! But completed it aerobically in about 56′, not bad for a 65y old. Maybe I’ll do it again as an actual workout, see what I can do when I apply some power 🙂
