New “Peak Zwift” Achieved: 43,265

Yesterday’s Peak Zwift surprised some of us, since it was on a Monday and fairly early in January. But today’s new peak is less surprising, since Tuesdays are when Peak Zwift often happens.

Today’s peak jumped to 43,233, up 15% from yesterday’s peak of 37,569. Quite a jump!

The peak occurred just after 10am Pacific time as another Tour de Zwift event was kicking off. Many Zwifters sent us Companion app screenshots showing 40k+ Zwifters online, but the prize goes to Magnus Tillquist who snapped the highest number we’ve seen yet – 43,233!

Reminder: Zwift hasn’t been confirming precise peak numbers, so it’s up to us to spot new records. That means we don’t know the precise Peak Zwift number, but we can certainly get close.

If you think you’ve spotted a new Peak Zwift, snap a screenshot and send it over to me at [email protected]!

What will 2021’s Peak Zwift number be, and when will it happen? Comment below with your guess!

UPDATE: Astute Zwifter Daren Chandisingh posted a screenshot showing 43,265, so we’ve modified this post accordingly!

figure about 20,000 * $15/month ?

That is quite a lot! I’m glad to see that Zwift is not forcing particular hardware or charging $45/month like Peloton. But I’m also not happy when it glitches. I did “upgrade” from my derelict “Vista” PC to a 4K appleTV for $150 that runs 1080 smoothly on a high-speed cable network. I don’t want to spend $500-$2000 on a computer that is only for Zwift, Or have to move my computer from where I work to where I ride every time I want to hop on Zwift either. I think on thing that did help was limiting the number… Read more »

Peak problems more like. Wife was in the Champs Elysées route and it was almost impossible to use. Glitching graphics but rideable to start with and then it just ground to a halt. It was 15 minutes after she stopped before her avatar finally came to a stop and she tried to exit and save then another 15 minutes before it exited. It was trying to render every Zwifter and not the closest 100 again and that’s the third time I’ve seen it happen now where it tries that and fails miserably. 99.9% of the time it just works but… Read more »

I think Zwift is creaking at the seams and neeeds a total revamp. Last time I put in a submission complaint about this they would have had me spending thousands on a new computer when the issue was clearly with Zwift. I have told them to forget about future works for now and get the basic product right. No response.

I was in a 10k+ event. Before start everything was fine. After start 0-2 fps for circa 30 minutes. PC load? Cpu around 40 % and gpu between 0 and 10 % during the first minutes. After that it went slowly back to normal and cpu load went over 50 % and gpu load up to 100 %. Seems like a design or network issue. Not a rendering (client HW) one.

No issues at all on Tuesday in TDz event, decent solid FPS all the time. What does zwiftalizer.com show about your network and pairing?

I warmed up there and did tdz event with 4900 riders and had no problems. I run the game on $ gamer pc FWIW.

No problems on my end. I’m running Zwift on an old gaming Asus laptop.99.9% such problems are due to the user equipment. Try lowering your graphics quality settings in Zwift if you see such things – might help.

More zwifters makes for a near impossible ride, so many glitches riding last night I almost gave up 😭. Bring on spring!! Maybe RGT might be worth a go 🤔.

it’s your set up. i7 and an RTX3090 = 100fps @4k, no glitches and smooth as glass

A 3 year old i7 and 1080ti is sufficient to hold 150fps on 2k.

my point, exactly. All those ‘moaning’ and ‘rattling on’ about glitches/hard to ride/blah, blah, comes down to crap hardware. Zwift need to remove their support of low-end PoS, in fact Jon Mayfiled said they were going remove support for low end integrated Intel GPU over 18 months ago. Guess that got filed with all the other improvements *sigh*

It’s not HW related, when you have 0-2 fps because there are too many people, something is badly designed and your cpu load is under 50 % and gpu load is under 10 %. If it was my HW, the load of at least one of cpu or gpu would be at 100 % and I’d still have 0-2 fps, but when my gpu load is at 100 % I have 40+ fps.

It’s a single threaded app sadly; you’ll probably find one core was maxed out and the others were 100% unused !! That’s what happens in large group rides, the single core cpu performance becomes the bottleneck and it can’t then drive the gpu hard enough.

Greg. All most all PC games are single-threaded, in fact, it’s an issue ‘plaguing’ the industry. Most of the artificial benchmarks place a weight on the single-core performance of a CPU, as that is where it’s going to make the most difference. It’s where AMD has been kicking Intel’s butt, as until recently their high-end CPUs have had strong single-core performance.

I am not sure if you are serious or sarcastic, so just for the record… AMD cpus have been for the past 15 years strictly behind Intel when it comes to single core performance, however at the same price, they sold cpus with more cores. That is why Intel gained so much ground, plus their cpus were all-round not that good until Ryzen. Now with Ryzen AMD is a very good choice and their cpus all almost all-round better than Intel’s, but the single core performance is still strongly in Intel’s hands. On another note all new PC games that… Read more »

I am running Zwift on a notebook with i5-5200U cpu and integrated gpu, which is almost as low-end as you can get… (the cpu has 2 cores and 4 threads) Usually I have 35+ fps, which is perfectly fine for Zwift for me and I don’t have problems even in bigger group rides of 300+ people.

How long have you been working for zwift Colin?. Been using zwift for three years and never had an issue before with my setup, definitely something wrong in the zwift world at the moment. Soon be spring and proper cycling in the Yorkshire dales. 😁👍

Actually, it’s the reverse Stephen, I’ve been banned from all the Zwift forums for my vocal, rational disagreements about stuff. However, one thing that has always worked well, it’s the client on a decent PC. For the next stage of TdZ, I’m going to drag a PoS machine to my room and run it side-by-side with RTX3090 machine, so you can see that it’s the PC, not Zwift. I’ll post a video. I can guarantee the PoS machine will be more tedious than reading all moaning. YMMV

It’s not [email protected] hardware or set up. Was on Champs Elysee same time as other poster and glitches/rendering issues/freezes were same for me. Switched to Watopia and no problem.

Fewer riders => fewer objects to track and fewer graphics for your client.

Oh man… zwiftpower.com has 200k files pending. This could break it totally given Zwift seem to be thinking about it in months and not days or weeks.

Eric – have you condiered covering this as it’s now a Zwift-owned platform?

I wanted to ask exactly the same question. The TTT ride from last year is still pending. Guess many people might see changes going all out on the Alpe!!!

love zwift but tired of getting kicked off rides due to glitches…..bought a new charger for my h3 just in case that was the issue, installed a new modem….but got kicked off 5 minutes before the end of a ride yesterday…..love having the 43,000 but can zwift handle it

Yes, but it shouldn’t be on the user to buy new hardware just because Zwift is incapable of building a working platform. That’s just not reasonable.

Technically you are probably correct, but it is not reasonable. Just look at WoW. Why do you think they have so many servers? Zwift shouldn’t do events with more than 1000 people (in one server instance) and even that is maybe too much.

I have a sidenote on the level of truth of that peak-Zwift however. How about the bottom-low? I have seen it once under 4k users in the past 13 months I think (38xx). But a lot, just over 4000. And I mean a lot, really a lot of hours just around 4100 or maybe 4200 if I checked. Out of proportion amount of just over 4k users. That was in july-augustus. Made me think: maybe it’s users n + ~3500 always. Am I the devil here now? I love Zwift having ridden over 300 hours those 13 months, which were… Read more »
