Zwift Clubs have launched! What’s next?

As of yesterday, Zwift has rolled out Clubs access to all eligible members.

That means if you’re paid subscriber 16 years old or older who is a level 20+ rider or level 10+ runner, you should be able to create a Club as long as you have the current version of the Companion app on iOS or Android.

It also means thousands of Clubs have been created (with thousands more to come) – and with that, a huge number of Club-powered events. It’s the start of a Zwift revolution!

What’s Next?

Now that Zwift has met their January goal of releasing Clubs to the community, they’re working on enhancing Clubs functionality and squishing any bugs along the way.

Eddy Lee, Senior Product Manager and product lead on Clubs, will be sharing a monthly post on the Zwift forum to update us on Clubs development. His January post is very straightforward and thorough, which we appreciate! Read that post to get a full picture of where Clubs are heading, but we’ll call out a few highlights here:

What Zwift is working on now:

  • Push notifications when a new club event is created
  • Push notifications when there is a new club chat
  • Ability to discover and join a club

Status of much-requested features:

Eddy has listed a pile of Clubs features/functionality, and given each a high-level status:

  • Discovery: Early in the process
  • Backlog: On Zwift’s radar and some work has been done
  • In Progress: Actively being worked on

Here are a few popular feature requests and their current status:

  • Having more than 100 members in a club – Discovery
  • Rubberbanding (keeping everyone to gether) mode – Discovery
  • Group workout mode – Backlog
  • Club kits – Discovery

How To Have Multiple Club Owners/Event Creators

One repeated question we’ve seen is from Club owners who want to allow others to create events in their Club. Getting this done is actually quite easy, although not super-intuitive currently.

Right now, only Club members designated as “Owners” can create events. The good news is, you can promote as many members to “Owner” status as you’d like! Here’s how to promote a member to Owner status:

  • Go to your Club roster (from Club homepage tap the 3 dot menu and tap “Roster”)
  • Tap the 3 dot menu next to the member you want to promote, and tap “Make Moderator”
  • Tap the 3 dot menu (again) next to the member you want to promote, and tap “Make Owner”
  • Confirm by tapping “OK”

More Clubs Help

There’s a helpful Zwift support page dedicated to Clubs which will continue to expand as the feature set is built out. We recommend visiting that page to get your Clubs questions answered, as the information it contains is quite thorough.

Sharing Feedback on Clubs

Remember: Clubs are still in Zwift’s FutureWorks umbrella, which means they are essentially a “beta” feature. That means they are actively evolving, and input from the community is vital.

If you’d like to make a feature request, report a bug, or share other feedback on Clubs, do so on the FutureWorks Clubs section of the Zwift forum.

Still Can’t Create (or Join) a Club?

Here are the requirements to create or join a Club:

  • Paid subscriber
  • Good standing with our customer support team
  • 16 years of age or older
  • Belong to less than 3 clubs
  • Latest version of ZC (3.31.1 for Android and 3.32.0 for iOS)

Additionally, to create a Club you must be at Level 20+ for cycling or 10+ for running.

I can create a club… but how do I join a club? I don’t see a list of clubs anywhere.

I believe current state is you join a club by accepting an invite, and that invite can only be sent to someone who is following you. Being.able to search/join sounds like a feature to follow, hopefully soon.

Discovering clubs is not yet an option. To get an invite you need to follow the Club owner and they have to send you an invite.

BTW, from what I can tell JOINING a club, initially, is pretty small benefit, basically allows you visibility to see club events and chat. Starting a club, even if you never get any members, does now give the ability to create a ride, AND A SHAREABLE LINK. Push that link out through email, social media, whatever and anyone can join that ride. You CAN restrict it to members only if you want. I also noticed that even though my club ride is public, it likely isn’t published by Zwift so won’t show up in Zwifthacks, Zwiftpower, etc. I suspect it… Read more »

Should club events show in the list of all Zwift events (because ours is currently) or are they supposed to be private to the club?

If I create a club with myself as the sole member does this mean I can create events anywhere, anytime? Meaning I’m no longer constrained by the Zwift world schedule.

You can already do that. Check ZwiftInsider for the hack to ride any world you want.

I have created a club but I’m unable to invite a friend who is a level 12. I know that one has to be at least at level 20 to create a club but is there a minimum level to join? On my list of members that I can invite to join, that person is greyed out and labeled “blocked”

I got that too and opened a ticket with Zwift.

Seems a little weird that clubs are limited to 100 when you have massive groups like DIRT. I deleted Facebook in the only thing I miss is the DIRT page.

Great information! Thanks for the update. Being able to only invite those who follow you is a bit of challenge. Guessing that is keep spam down. Teams really need bigger clubs.

Very, very cool. Once they get club kits in game alongside proper adaptive training plans and all in one affordable smart bikes the future is theirs. Everyone around them that coasted and lacked Min’s vision will ultimately crumble.

Well done Zwift, but still a lot of work to do yet. I think the training plan overhaul into something complete and serious will be their toughest challenge. They like to throw money at marketing, but are they prepared to throw money at something like next gen training I’m not so sure..

Not sure what you mean by adaptive training plans … is this the ability to reschedule if time crushed. I’m not a big fan of cookie cutter plans myself. I tend to keep things simple and just use my own library of workouts as and when I can. Others may find this boring but it works for me.

Very impressed with the club functionality and can’t wait for the ability to create kit that matches my real world club kit.

Zwift needs to get U16 functionality ASAP, they could get a bunch of lifelong subscribers if they actually payed attention to what the younger community wants.

Agreed, I run online weekly meetups for my club, aimed at youngsters. The new club feature would be perfect if u16’s were allowed. It would make group workouts so easy to sort.

Thanks for this update. You’ve already identified one missing option I’m looking forward to: “keep everyone together” aka “rubber-band” mode. I host personal meetups with friends of varying fitness levels so Club rides will have to wait for that.

Would like to see the ability to disable power ups on the todo list for events already now. Still early, but its kind of far into the Clubs beta so would have expected these things to be a lot more ready to go than it is if people actually have had any feedback.

If we create an event with different wkg categories on the same route will they all ride together, be visible to the other categories?

It looks like for those wanting to join a club, they have to be level 20+. I understand the club creator need to be 20+ but why have this restriction for those that want to join the fun!

Club Kits? are they in the making and or soon to come as well?

Does anyone know if the “Keep everyone together” feature applies to Club Events?
