Tomorrow sees the launch of a fresh Zwift mission created to celebrate the new 2022 Kask Protone Icon helmet. The very same lid worn by the INEOS Grenadiers, this helmet is the next iteration of Kask’s winning Protone line and features the latest technological advances in safety, ventilation, and aerodynamics.
Mission Details
This mission is all about climbing! To complete the Kask Protone Icon mission riders must sign up (see below) and then accumulate at least 2500m (8,202′) of elevation between 8am PT June 16, 2022 and 11:59pm PT June 30, 2022.

Completing the mission will unlock the in-game Kask Protone Icon helmet. One lucky Zwifter who completes the mission will win the same helmet in real life!

Why do they do these in the UK summer, when it’s actually not raining, so we’re not using Zwift. Winters are great for zwift stuff. Never mind.
Do you expect Zwift to just do nothing during the summer? That seems a bit odd…
They definitely do a lot MORE events in the Northern Hemisphere winter. But it makes sense that they would keep holding some special events even in the lighter months, doesn’t it?
because the world only has a northern hemisphere and zwift is only played in the UK?
If a lot of people are not using Zwift, that would be a great time for them to run a promotion
They are a business and so i am sure that they want to encourage people to still use (and pay for) their services during this time.
Apart from the obvious that zwift is a global thing and not just UK based, I’m in the UK and still use Zwift. In fact prefer it to cycling outside fighting with traffic etc.
It appears there’s been a chance to unlock this helmet earlier – the event “Ride with Reggie” actually resulted in unlocking not one, but THREE items – event’s kit (by Castelli), Kask helmet and Fizi:k shoes.
(However i was UNlucky participant that received all three items just to loose it due to Zwift’s bug)
That would be a different Kask helmet, as the Protone Icon was only released in the last couple months.
I did the “Ride with Reggie” & unlocked the castelli kit,fizik shoes & kask protone helmet, maybe this one is slightly different, looks the same tbh.
Protone is the original version. Protone Icon is new.
I’ve completed the challenge & received the e-mail saying its unlocked in my garage & only the ride with reggie protone is there?
Maybe I’ll ask in the zwift forum if the helmet is the same or bugged as I haven’t received it!
Same. Completed today but the new one not in my garage!!!
So, I completed this but didnt unlock the Icon. I emailed support and sent a pic of the Protone helmet I have (from Reggie ride) and they confirmed that is the new Icon and correct helmet. Looks like it’s replaced rather than a new one. 3 times up the Alpe for nothing haha
Too bad the Alpe pace partners aren’t still riding.

Seems like a lot of work for a plain white helmet, but then again I do climb the Alpe over and over for the same set of gloves…
I’m always amazed at the negative comments which appear concerning stuff like this.
I’m in the UK and what passes for summer is falling from the sky as I type. I ride indoors throughout the year.
For one thing, I know of no section of road anywhere near me on which I can do continuous efforts safely. Junctions, road defects, pedestrians, dogs, drivers and other riders all present challenges in concentration.
Indeed, I don’t ride using power meter outside. The cost is one thing and another is that looking at a power number on a screen means that I’d not be looking for the stuff which might kill me. Other folk seem to manage that but it’s not for me.
By riding ‘smart’ on the trainer (i.e. with proper polarised training) I am hitting PB after PB outside without even extending myself. All on about 2/3 of the riding I did before.
Anyway, another reason for my Zwifting is the need to remain available. Specifically, like many other people I have responsibilities as a carer. So, it’s not always possible to be too far away from the phone/car in case there’s a need to respond.
Wee virtual ‘prizes like the Kask icon are meant to be fun and provide a bit of distraction.
Personally, I like to ride on Zwift without a helmet and tend to go bare headed or with a casquette. Indoors I can live without a helmet. Outdoors I’d feel naked without one. .
However, completion of level 31 is just a ride or two away and I am looking forward immensely to ‘winning’ my paper boy cap. I might just be able to die happy when I get it 😉
it will hopefully encourage me to do an hour before work each day, when I am working from home, rather than staying in bed for the hour.
After having our summer yesterday it is raining today, so got 20% of it done already.
I climbed 2800 meters but didn’t get a helmet! did you have to be registered?
