“Route Chaser” Challenge Launched

Today, Zwift launched a three-route challenge centered around the Volcano KOM in Watopia. This “mini challenge” runs from May 12 to July 5, and requires game version 1.113 (releasing today) or higher. Read on for details…

Challenge Requirements

The Challenge features three routes in ascending level of difficulty. You can complete them in any order you’d like, though:

Completing the Challenge

Everyone is automatically signed up for this challenge. As long as you’ve got version 1.113 or higher installed, and you’re within the challenge date window, you can ride the three routes above in any way you’d like (in an event, as a free ride, for a structured workout, etc) and get credit for completion.

Click that challenge card to access the routes and see reward details.

Pro tip: Want to double up on bonus XP? Tackle one of the new Quickfire 30 Challenge workouts, using one of the three routes above as your route. You’ll get credit for completing the workout as well as the route!

Challenge Rewards

You will earn an XP bonus for each route you complete in the challenge, with a total of 1500 XP available:

  • 1 route: 250 XP
  • 2 routes: 500 XP
  • 3 routes: 750 XP

Deadline

This challenge goes live at May 12, 2026 at 09:00 PT, and ends July 5, 2026 at 23:59 PT.

(I recommend finishing before the final day, though, as some past Challenges have ended earlier than expected, and you don’t want to be caught out if that happens.)

Are the bonus earned in these (and other) challenges take part with the accelaretes leveling (i.e., will i earn 3x the bonus, discounted from my “banked” xp)?

I did this route today as the route of the week so the 250 + 250 bonus. I was watching my XP right before I finished and I did get 2,000 XP upon completion (I am on accelerating XP right now). In other words, I went from needing 13,000 XP needed to get to the next level, to 11,000.

If I understood @Art’s question correctly, that’s where you’re mistaken, Eric.
When I’m in accelerated leveling mode, all XP earned (e.g., in Route Chaser: 250-500-750 XP) counts toward leveling up.
So, for completing one route: 250*4=1000 XP + 20*4 XP for each kilometer covered.
For the second route completed, we get 500*4 XP = 2000 XP + XP for the distance covered.
Yesterday I did:
– “Whole Lotta Lava”
– “Volcano Climb”
and earned ~8330XP
(I started with 9293XP to the next level and finished with 961XP to the next level).

The situation is exactly the same with workouts in “QuickFire30”—they are also calculated with leveling in mind.

Yesterday’s route from the third (and final) activity in the “Route Chaser” series (Spiral Into the Volcano) – 8280XP:

Whole Lotta Lava is also Route of the Week from May 12 until May 19. So just doing Route of the Week should give me 250 XP + 250 XP, yeah?

Confirmed. I didn’t even have the update yet and still got the credit for the completion.

Eric, my Apple TV showed ver. 112, but after completing WLL, it showed route chaser with one of 3 completed. It also lost ALL of my routes completed and badges…

Do you need to redo a route if you have already ridden it before this challenge went live?

We’re going for it! Spiral into the volcano will be first on my list!

If it wasn’t for “Route of the Week” I wouldn’t know it existed. Why no challenge info on the in game landing page? Or is it just me?
