Zwift on Windows 11: Tips, Tricks, and Benchmarks

Our friend from down under Shane Miller (GPLama on YouTube) recently posted a video to help Windows-using Zwifters who may be considering upgrading to Windows 11. Shane says, “In this video I cover the upgrade process (fast-tracked), I perform a number of Zwift benchmarks, and show you how to move that start button back over to the LEFT!”

    Video Index:

    • 0:00 Intro
    • 1:02 HP Omen Gaming PC Windows 11 Upgrade
    • 1:39 Alienware Alpha R2 Windows 11 Upgrade
    • 2:45 CPU Check Bypass (Required for the Alpha R2)
    • 3:21 Moving the Windows Start Button to the Bottom Left
    • 3:52 Alienware Alpha R2 Zwift Benchmarks
    • 4:47 HP Omen Zwift Benchmarks
    • 5:09 Upgrade Conclusions
    • 5:19 Warnings / Disclaimers / Notes
    • 6:41 Wrap Up
    • 6:59 Extra Info….

    Benchmark Results

Shane’s average framerate didn’t change after upgrading to Windows 11 on both of his test machines.

He summarizes his findings thus: “I suspect if you have PC that the installation assistant passes all checks and tells you that you can go from Windows 10 to Windows 11, you’re unlikely to have any problems doing this upgrade.”

    Questions or Comments?

Have you upgraded your Zwift machine to Windows 11 yet? How’s it performing, if so? Share your experiences below!

Not yet. My laptop is old, and doesn’t have a new enough TPM. I suppose there are ways to defeat that, but I haven’t cared enough to try.

Yes I updated my laptop to Win 11 and yes i had issues. My laptop has 2x gpus, one intel one nvidia. The nvidia chip is for gaming. After the update the zwift app would only run on the pathetic intel graphics chip reducing my zwift performance to 20 fps. to fix it I made two changes. 1. in the windows graphics settings I set zwift launcher and zwiftapp to use the NVIDIA gpu. 2. in the NVIDIA control panel, I set the image settings to the third option: use my preference emphasizing quality

Upgraded to Windows11 and generally its been fine. Do have a weird bluetooth bug with my Wahoo Tickr though, where if it loses signal (e.g. if I start the game then go off to get a water bottle or comfort break) it will refuse to reconnect until app is relaunched.

I’ve spent some time trying to get Bluetooth HRM stable with Zwift and I see the same issue. In my testing, this is an issue with Zwift and not related to the OS or the HRM. I logged it with Zwift support, but no official response so far… Zwift fails to reconnect to Bluetooth HRM after any temporary dropout/disconnect event – Bugs and Support – Zwift Forums

      Hello

I have a new computer and it keeps crashing and interrupting any activity. These activities are not visible at all in Zwift, all the effort is for nothing.
Parameters: Lenovo ThinkBook Processor Intel core i5-1035G1 1GHz, 8gb ram memory, integrated graphics card with Intel UHD Graphics, System Windows 11.
Every event, training, race, coffee ride etc. is interrupted and all that’s left is to recover the file and export to Strava. Additionally, there are only black photos in Companion.
Reinstalling Zwift did not help again – the same thing happens.
      .
      Please, help me :/

There seems to be a known bug that causes crashes if you use an Intel 10th/11th Gen CPU with the integrated GPU. Maybe you suffer from this bug?

Regardless the 10th/11th Gen integrated GPU bug I experienced that Zwift runs not as stable under Windows 11 than it did under Windows 10. I use it with a Microsoft Surface Studio 2 which I updated 3 weeks ago to Windows 11. Since than Zwift crashed twice midride. It simply disappeared completely. I had never experienced such a crash while using Zwift with Windows 10.

We’ve upgraded to W11 and now ZWIFT is crashing on nearly every ride. My wife and I are on the verge of giving up on ZWIFT – 6 crashes in a 60 min ride the other morning. Its an absolute car crash. Im seeing lots of chat on other forums with lots of other users also struggling with W11. Please ZWIFT – sort it out.
