Route Description

Begin in the southern coast start pens at Cuidad la Cumbre and turn left to head toward the Mayan Jungle, your final destination.

The southern coast road provides a nice, flat warmup before your Jungle effort. You’ll hit the slightly-downhill Acropolis Sprint Reverse first, then the Stoneway Sprint a few kilometers later.

Soon enough you’ll turn left onto the dusty Mayan Jungle loop, and ride through the lap arch. This will be your finish line, but first you need to ride two laps of the Jungle!

The lap begins with the uphill first half of the loop. Wave hello to the sloth as you climb past, be sure to punch it as you cross the rope bridge at the top, then enjoy the dirty descent back to the bottom and through the lap banner. Do it once more, and you’re done!

Top notch creativity with these last two routes we have had added to the game.

No one wants another Jungle Loop route.

Honestly, as someone who is trying to upgrade my gravel bike, I’d love a week or two where there’s a pace partner doing routes that include the Jungle Loop so I can get that done with fellow, like-minded sufferers.

With about half this route in the jungle, I’m wondering about bike choice. A shorter lead in would say gravel for sure, but this has an awful lot of paved intro.

One to experiment with, but a gravel bike in a bunch for that tarmac should still be quick and no drain on the legs (it’s not that hilly). So the gravel bike could win through on the jungle climb as the group fragments.

I think you’re probably right. If you can stick with the group to the dirt on a gravel bike (and the roadies don’t put out massive W on the start to leave a few isolated gravel riders alone without the draft until you get to the dirt – so it probably depends on what the field does as a whole), there’s going to be a lot more time spent on the dirt, so a gravel bike might come out ahead. Being able to survive to the dirt on a gravel bike would be key – and if I were on a road bike in a pack with mainly road bike riders – I’d do everything I could to make sure that you couldn’t. Might be one of those cases where you show up to the pens in one style of bike and swap in the pens right before the race starts so that no one can see what you’re actually riding and can include you in their strategy.

For the moment, its main purpose is the 5 min power test, so bike choice won’t matter. 😉

not another rehashed route. Isn,t it about time we actually had new routes which are totally new, and not ‘new’ as it’s an add on to what we already have ??????????

It is time. However, the Zwift apologists will swarm you and say wasn’t the coastal road and grade enough? No…it isn’t over a four year gap of Watopia having zero expansion.

The Grade was released a year ago and Jarvis Island was released less than a year ago

They’re doing an expansion of New York soon, added Jarvis and the Grade in the last year.

have a heart towards the folks who program it all.

For real, I feel like the Jungle has been forgotten and very few routes go over there

I really like this one: with the jungle surface smoothed out, bike selection on mixed routes almost always favors road bikes now. But on this one with repeated laps of the jungle after an only moderate lead-in, even mountain bikes are in play. Consider: dirt Crr is 0.2% lower on mountain vs gravel, but road Crr is only 0.1% higher (absolute). So it comes down to CdA: can you tolerate higher wind resistance on the MTB?

It adds a nice strategic element.
