Ever since Zwift released its Makuri Islands “Yumezi” map in May Zwifters have been asking, “When can we do Meetups on the new map?”
Initial responses from Zwift on social media posts seemed to indicate that Meetup functionality wasn’t planned until the fall, which seemed like an oddly long delay. Happily, according to a new Zwift forum post they have opted to roll out Makuri Islands Meetup functionality beginning Monday, June 28th!
Additionally, the post indicates that event organizers will be able to select Yumezi routes for their events beginning on this same date. Until now, Yumezi-based group rides and races have been few and far between. But we expect that will change quickly!
Both Meetups and event editing are accomplished via the Companion app, so it would make sense for both features to be updated simultaneously.

Yes! I can understand why they delay it, otherwise every race after the release would be on Yumezi. But i’m very happy that the restriction is gone!
Now that I am back cycle commuting, I am spending less time on Zwift. June will be the first month of 2021 when my actual outdoor mileage exceeds my Zwift mileage (helps have a 35km each way commute two days per week) and now that Makuri is part of the general rotation it will be good to be able to pick off my final two routes at my convenience rather than needing my Zwifting to coincide with the calendar (could use the world hack but, frankly) making a meetup is much less hassle).
Also helps that my wife is Zwift runner so I can simply invite her to the meetup … she aint gonna show, she has to put up with me in the real world.
It could be fun to do crit racing in the box village (pretty flat) and the castle village (hilly)
