I don’t understand. Even if he DID have advanced information about the sale and gave a tease, why is that a bad thing? Eric clearly has a connection to Zwift – works with people there, gets some amount of support for this site, etc. – and, in turn, provides tremendous benefit to us that we wouldn’t/can’t get anywhere else.
If he helps Zwift in some minor way (you could argue that he actually COST Zwift money if his tease caused people to delay their purchase and therefore pay Zwift less money), I see no problem with it.
I guess people are weirded out because the tone and the choice of words feel like a prehashed ad, and the post does not have the usual ‘objective info/news’ feeling. (“Save big”, “the best deal around for anyone looking for a turnkey Zwift setup”, etc.)
Eh, maybe he pasted some copy from Zwift Marketing but it didn’t seem out of place to me. And, I’d say this deal IS objectively the best deal around…
I have no idea how the revenue of this site works but I would assume that Eric benefits in some way from Zwift “doing better” so I don’t begrudge him hyping up new things from Zwift. I think he does a great job of balancing the promoting of Zwift features and benefits, with pointing out where they need to improve (see the critique of the MyCanyon feature he just wrote about).
Eric doesn’t need me to defend him of course – just my thoughts.
I’ve always published info on big hardware discounts (from Zwift or elsewhere) here on Zwift Insider. Because it’s news Zwifters care about. I won’t apologize for that, especially given this is the biggest discount Zwift has ever run (by a good margin, especially in the US) on the Zwift Ride setup.
If you can’t see that this is big news in the Zwift world… well, I won’t try to convince you.
Eric my criticism about GB prices was never aimed at you, you have always done a great job, and I think it appropriate that you mention this offer. But I think there should be something said how Zwift are ripping GB customers off. Why do we pay so much more than US and Europe?

The standard cranks are 170mm. The optional adjustable cranks offer 160-175mm.

I think we were just disappointed, given that most of the people visiting your site would be current Zwift users and only a small percentage would be in the market for a Zwift Ride/Kickr Core 2
Zwift hold an Event call the “Big Weekend”, which is 9 Ride with Pros and mostly on Friday and Monday in my timezone, so it’s not “Big” and very little of it is on the “Weekend”, a big fail on something that they could have made good

It’s great to hear about the sale on equipment. I shared it with a lot of people who don’t regularly read Zwift Insider. I want more people in the game on decent trainers and there are a lot of people out there like that. I never cared about the group rides. I mean I like group rides but celebrity leader rides are almost always disappointing. Looking forward to Zwift Unlocked which should be a blast.
