Trollstigen, which translates to Troll’s Ladder, is considered by many to be Norway’s most famous and dangerous road. Its eleven hairpin turns offer breathtaking views of the mountainous terrain in Rauma and the iconic Stigfossen Waterfall. But to get there, cyclists must contend with poor traction caused by snowmelt and mist from nearby waterfalls, plus auto traffic, rockfalls, and narrow driving lanes.
The road is typically closed during late autumn in winter, but in 2024 it opened in early June due to high snowfall, then closed for the year just ten days later due to excessive rockfalls.
The good news for Zwifters is, you’re safe to ride it in game. Keep the lights on, though: legend has it that trolls roam the Trollstigen by night, and they turn to stone if hit by sunlight.
We couldn’t find an IRL segment that matched Zwift’s start and end points, but here’s one that covers all the roads on Zwift’s segment plus more:
Looking forward to this, I believe it will be the first nordic segment in Zwift. The outdoor version is amazing! I did it 2.5 years ago 🙂
I’m jealous! And yes, for sure the first Nordic portal. Super cool.
Make zwift do the portal but with the real view not the incline color.
That’s what Rouvy is for , hehe
BTW. Do you have any idea why they have scaled it down from 7.7% to 6.3% average gradient compared to the most similar outdoor version (“Trollstigen hele – fra Kløvstien til toppen”, segment ID 35354225)? Do they normally do that when importing climbs, or is it a mistake? Currently, the Heroic 125% version is the version that looks most like the outdoor one… (although that would be longer than outdoors)
Available all November – under «Just ride» category in Zwift app 🤭
When will this portal be available in zwift?
All of November 2024
Stigen means path, stegen means ladder
Say whaaat? I think most norwegians use «stigen» for «the ladder». «Stien» on the other hand means «the path».
Yes, but in this case the name actually comes from the path. Recognize that the old path is called both “Kløvstigen” and “Kløvstien”…
I want the amazing view along with workout, not only hollow 3D bars. LEVEL UP please!
Did it today 1.november. Nice when Zwift says the effort was faster than 100% of other riders ^^ That will not last long…^^
Buggy results at the summit, first it listed the times with the correct route name, then it listed it as “Petite KOM”, but the same actual list, only the segment title was wrong.
Another excellent climb challenge. Right distance right amount of difficulty. Keep them coming Zwift!!
