Trollstigen, which translates to Troll’s Ladder, is considered by many to be Norway’s most famous and dangerous road. Its eleven hairpin turns offer breathtaking views of the mountainous terrain in Rauma and the iconic Stigfossen Waterfall. But to get there, cyclists must contend with poor traction caused by snowmelt and mist from nearby waterfalls, plus auto traffic, rockfalls, and narrow driving lanes.
The road is typically closed during late autumn in winter, but in 2024 it opened in early June due to high snowfall, then closed for the year just ten days later due to excessive rockfalls.
The good news for Zwifters is, you’re safe to ride it in game. Keep the lights on, though: legend has it that trolls roam the Trollstigen by night, and they turn to stone if hit by sunlight.
