“Pas de Peyrol/Puy Mary” Details (Zwift Climb Portal)

Key Details

Why the two-part name for this climb? “Puy Mary” is the name of the mountain – an extinct volcano – which this road climbs. The road itself travels through the “Pas de Peyrol” which is the highest road pass in the Massif Central.

First used in the 1959 Tour de France, this climb has featured intermittently in the Tour, with 2024’s stage 11 being its 12th appearance.

The toughest part of this climb is the final ~2.1km, where the average gradient kicks up to over 10%. Zwift’s version begins near La Chaze, much earlier than the IRL segment shown below, but we couldn’t find an IRL segment that was a better match. (It appears that the cycling world considers the final ~5.4km of the climb to be the true Pas de Peyrol/Puy Mary.)

Pas de Peyrol/Puy Mary trivia: the Strava KOM holder for the IRL climb segment below is none other than Tadej Pogacar, who snagged it on a training ride in 2020.

Here’s the IRL segment:

Why keep making new climbs when we generally only get one climb portal climb a day (France is rarely given as an access during the month)? Such a shame we still do not have more choices daily.

You can get to France anytime you want to by doing a workout. Just end the workout once you get there

Smart thinking, with Zwift you’ve got to always outsmart the developers -kind of sad actually!

Time for this one to come around again Zwift. I missed it due to injury and it’s not been on rotation again since July 2024!

Are there any plans to add a climb like the Stelvio? Managed it IRL once and would love to get that feeling again!
