“Oude Kwaremont” Details (Zwift Climb Portal)

Key Details

As the central climb in the modern Tour of Flanders, Oude Kwaremont holds a special place in the hearts of cycling fans. Few races match the prestige of De Ronde, and while it may seem that such a short climb wouldn’t have a major impact on such a long race (250km for men), it often does.

It may not be as steep as the Koppenberg and Paterberg climbs, but it’s the longest cobbled climb of the race and always seems to inspire a tactical battle. This is especially true since 2012, when the racecourse was redesigned to include the Kwaremont 3x for men and 1x for women. Its final ascent, in combination with the Paterberg, is certainly a crux point of the race.

Looks like we have a new fastest climb to gain XP 💛
270m longer than Cote de Pike, but 123m less climbing (61m @ 50% gradient)

Just seen that Zwift has decreased the length and height.
Now by far the fastest way to collect XP.

exactly. on this climb you may get more than 500 XP per lap if you have a bit of luck. so, if you care about XP at all (you may not care if you’ve passed level 50 or 60…), this is where you can farm them quickly.

Is there cobbles in zwift portal or any added difficulty to make it harder because of the cobbles?
If not…it is a perfect nonsense.

One legged pedaling drills should make the climb tougher.

Don’t know why you are getting downvoted, it’s a perfectly legitimate question as some trainers (noticeably high end tacx trainers) can simulate road surface including cobbles

It was 2min | 5 W/kg, 2.5min | 4 W/kg before Eric recalculated it. Now it seems to be more credible.

Lol I just collected around 4000XP for 75min riding this portal 9 times at 100%. At 50% this must be insane 😀

I’m level 60 on Zwift but pretty much clueless about gaining XP deliberately in order to level up faster (other than staying close to pacer bots!) I’ve not really focused on it too much, though your comment has piqued my interest. Can you explain how using short hills to get quick XP, as well as your reference to doing so at a lower difficulty level, helps level up faster? Thanks in advance!

updated article, and recent comments suggest it’s not that good as it was before.

That’s a fun climb – I did it yesterday in the Z Racing After Party. So short between the sections that there were a couple where I was using a PU, had a PU and couldn’t earn the one for a section I was finishing.

Apparently 8.5 watts per kilogram will put you at 2:16, the current kom.

I’m curious why there doesn’t seem to be a badge for completing this route. I did it at 100% to earn the right to ride the 125%, then rode the 125%, but still no badge. Do I have to ride the 50% and 75% in order to “complete” this route? Just curious, not obsessing over badges.

OK, I just rode the other two, 50% and 75%, all four options show completed, but still no badge and the route displays like I haven’t done it. I’ve done the full 7 miles each time (more actually). Oh well. I guess all you get on these is the “portal climber” achievement.

If you have Strava and VeloViewer, you could use the leaderboard at https://veloviewer.com/climb-portal to track which climbs you’ve done.
