“Col de la Madeleine” Details (Zwift Climb Portal)

Key Details

This emblematic Alpine pass is located in the department of Savoie, connecting La Chambre in Maurienne to the south with La Léchère in Tarentaise to the north. It’s a popular climb in the Tour de France, first featured in 1969 and included at least 26 times since!

Climbing the Col de la Madeleine from the north is described by many as easier than from the south, as it’s longer and less steep. Zwift’s segment climbs from the south, but oddly omits the first ~5 km of the climb.

This climb was added to Zwift’s Climb Portal to be featured in July 2025 at the same time as the pro men would race it as the second of three HC climbs in stage 18 of Le Tour!

Here’s the IRL segment that corresponds to Zwift’s portal:

Can’t wait to ride this climb again. Hope it does the IRL climb justice. It’s such a beautiful climb that one of my children is named after it.

Nice touch. How is young Col doing these days?

Similar to AdZ based on the time estimates. Riding at 125% will be fun.

Just finished this climb and really enjoyed it. While it took me 90 minutes the fairly constant 7-10% incline felt less taxing than climbs that have huge fluctuations between say 4-20%. What it really emphasized to me is how incredible pro riders truly are as this was just one of three climbs in Stage 18 of the tour. Wow!
