“Isola 2000” Details (Zwift Climb Portal)

Key Details

This climb begins in the French commune of Isola in the Alpes-Maritimes department in southeastern France and takes riders to the Isola 2000 Alpine ski resort.

The climb’s inclusion as the finish of stage 19 in the 2024 Tour de France marks only the second time it has been included in the Tour. (The first was in 1993, when Toni Rominger outsprinted Miguel Indurain in a two-up sprint for the win.)

Featuring 35 switchbacks, this is perhaps the twistiest climb in Zwift’s Climb Portal library!

Here’s the IRL segment:

Ok, a few things:
1) This is MUCH different than the Tdf climb portal version in France, which is a LOT harder than the Watopia version shown here…
2) The aforementioned TdF version in France seemed to be harder than the IRL climb, which you can see on the PJAMM site https://pjammcycling.com/climb/6324.Isola-2000 with 2.2 miles at or above 10%, versus this Watopia version which shows only 0.93 miles of same.
3) The maximum gradient on the France version is a LOT steeper and longer. Watopia version has a max of 11.x% while the real one, and the TdF version, have plenty of 20%+ sections…
4) There are a LOT of 15%+ sections and not just a few seconds around a switchback, oh no. The highest I saw was pushing 30% (thirty, with a three; I couldn’t see exactly the 2nd digit because I was dying).

I loved Fuji, but I am totally “meh” about Isola because it can’t be used for Everesting because it’s got a couple spots on the descent where your avatar will stop if you’re not pedaling. We need a binary list of descents that are coastable versus those that are not on the climb portal
